‘Out of My Control’ – Cooper Flagg Makes Brutally Honest Admission Over NBA Draft Lottery As Mavericks Win No. 1 Pick

Cooper Flagg could be the Mavericks’ No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, giving Dallas a fresh start after the Luka Dončić trade and playoff exit.

Cooper Flagg could soon become the new face of the Dallas Mavericks.

One of the most highly touted prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft, Flagg is widely expected to be selected with the Mavericks’ No. 1 overall pick.

If Dallas does choose him, Flagg would be entering a rookie season alongside established stars like Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving—an ideal environment for a young talent to develop.

Flagg Speaks on Being the Possible No. 1 Pick for the Mavericks

Speaking after the NBA Lottery, Flagg was asked about the possible Mavericks pick.

As mentioned, if Flagg joins Dallas, he’d be looking at a team ready to tackle the playoffs. Usually, a team at No. 1 is looking for a revamp and rebuild.

“I didn’t try to think about it too much. I feel like it was just kind of out of my control. So I’m just going through the process like everybody else and trying to enjoy every single moment — because you only get to do this once,” Flagg said about the situation.

Of course, who drafts him isn’t up to Flagg. Speaking of the opportunity presented to him, Flagg added:

“It’s an incredible experience to be here, to have this opportunity. I mean, it’s what I dreamed of since I was a little kid, so just to be here — it’s an incredible experience and a great opportunity.”

Flagg also addressed his ability to be a two-way player, something which might work in his favor in the NBA:

“Being a two-way player is something I’ve done since I was a little kid, so I’m just going to keep doing that to the best of my ability.”

Mark Cuban Speaks on Mavericks’ No. 1 Draft Pick

Like most fans, former majority owner Mark Cuban couldn’t contain his excitement at the Mavericks’ lottery.

“Unreal. OMFG. Let’s Go Mavs,” Cuban wrote on Twitter (now X).

Though still an influential figure within the Mavericks organization and fanbase, Mark Cuban sold the team for $3.5 billion in December 2023.

After a Play-In appearance in the 2024–25 season, the Mavericks could be eyeing a fresh start—with Cooper Flagg potentially leading that next chapter. While Flagg is a popular pick among fans and insiders, other options are being considered.

One scenario involves Dallas trading the No. 1 overall pick for an established superstar, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo. While the Greek Freak has long been loyal to the Milwaukee Bucks, their recent first-round exit against the Indiana Pacers has sparked trade speculation.

Regardless of which path they choose, the Mavericks are in a position to reshape their future—especially in the wake of the shocking Luka Dončić trade.

The team took a hit in fan support after moving on from Dončić, a player many believed would be the face of the franchise for years. But with Flagg or another star-caliber talent joining the roster, Dallas has a real shot at making a serious playoff push next season.
