Mavericks Rookie Cooper Flagg Wins Dallas Fans’ Hearts After Latest Cowboys Comment

Cooper Flagg is proving mature beyond his years. The Maine native was asked who his favorite NFL team is, and the subsequent answer will do his stock no harm over in Dallas.

In a tumultuous calendar year for the Dallas Mavericks, for various reasons, including Nico Harrison’s disastrous franchise-altering spell as GM being brought to a merciful end for suffering Mavs fans. Nevertheless, Cooper Flagg remains their main hope for the future. Despite having odds of just over 1% to land the first overall pick, they did so and drafted their own franchise-changing talent in Flagg.

His hot form of late has brought some excitement to Dallas. Not quite the scale of excitement of the team they share the city with, the Cowboys, who, thanks to Dak Prescott, have been surprisingly competitive this year, despite trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.

On that note, Flagg did his stock no harm with his comments on the popular NFL franchise.

Cooper Flagg Earning Praise On And Off The Court, Fans Love Cowboys Answer

Flagg, the Maine native, was asked by local media which his favorite NFL team is. He replied: “I was a Patriots fan growing up just ’cause that’s the closest one to Maine, but I’m not a huge football fan in general.” Then, when prompted about the Cowboys, he replied: “I’m a Cowboys fan now.” That response is bound to earn him rave reviews off the court, pledging his allegiance to Jerry Jones’ men.

Dallas fans were understandably delighted with his maturity in his rookie year. One fan took to the social media platform ‘X’ to compliment Flagg’s “media savvy,” likening it to that of a player who has been in the league for a decade rather than a rookie.

One fan commented, “Coop just gets it.”

Another Cowboy fan was similarly pleased, commenting: “Yes sr.”

Meanwhile, another joked that things are hard enough for the rookie, and said, “I thought we were trying to make things easy for Cooper in his rookie year. Don’t burden him with Cowboy fandom.”

Nevertheless, it was a smart answer that helped him win over Dallas fans. His on-court work has also helped; he’s proven to be an NBA-ready defender playing defense at a high level, as the rest of his game took slightly longer to get going.

Now he certainly has, as he averages solid numbers across the board. Averaging 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists on 47.5% shooting, plus over a steal per game. Solid all-around numbers, and he’s only 18 years old, which is also impressive.

He’s also proven to be quite adept in the clutch in his rookie year. He has over 50 clutch points on 55% shooting in those situations. Furthermore, he’s the only player in the league with those clutch numbers, along with that efficiency.

Despite the team’s tough year, Flagg is proving mature beyond his years.
