This decision highlights the difficult balance every team across the league must strike. Organizations face tough choices between maintaining cap space by avoiding the luxury tax and going all in with hopes of winning an NBA championship. The Clippers determined that offering Powell a new contract worked against their best interests and chose to trade him away.
