Cleveland Cavaliers Make Roster Move After Pistons Game

According to Michael Scotto, the Cavs are waiving Killian Hayes.

Killian Hayes appeared in six games for the Brooklyn Nets during the 2024-25 season.

He finished the year with averages of 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest while shooting 41.9% from the field and 38.1% from the three-point range.

Over the offseason, Hayes latched on with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cleveland Cavaliers Waive Hayes:

That said, he is now being waived.

Via Michael Scott of HoopsHype: “The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived Killian Hayes, league sources told @hoopshype. Hayes is expected to join Cleveland’s G League affiliate as he looks for another NBA opportunity. Hayes averaged 9.0 points and 5.2 assists in 27 minutes during six games for the Nets last season.”

Hayes was the seventh pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.

He spent the first four seasons of his career with the franchise.

His NBA career averages are 8.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest while shooting 38.3% from the field and 28.1% from the three-point range in 216 games.

Via Keith Smith of Spotrac (on August 14): “Killian Hayes played pretty well in the G League last year, and was solid on a 10 Day deal with the Nets. Shot looked improved. He’s always been a good passer/playmaker. I’m not out on Hayes yet. He could be a classic late-bloomer PG.”

Hayes will be an intriguing addition to their G League team.

If he has a strong season, there is no question that he would be a good candidate to land a 10-day contract.

Via Mack Perry of Its Cavalier (on October 13): “People forget Killian Hayes was a camp invite and not likely to be with the Cavs this year. He doesn’t have two-way eligibility either. Gonna be a charge player unless another injury occurs in the backcourt and they want to bring in another body.”

The Cavs will play their first game of the 2025-26 regular season when they visit the New York Knicks (on October 22) at Madison Square Garden.
