Chris Paul Sends 7-Word Message After Shockingly Getting Cut by Clippers

Chris Paul gave a pretty straightforward response to the Los Angeles Clippers shockingly sending him home.

Chris Paul’s second stint with the Los Angeles Clippers has seemingly come to an end. Late last night, the team stunningly announced it is “parting ways” with the legendary point guard during his final NBA season.

The Clippers are sending him home from the team’s road trip and will work with him on the next step of his career, likely by exploring a trade or buyout once he is trade-eligible on December 15. This move has sent shockwaves across the NBA, and Paul gave a blunt response to the news.

Chris Paul Responds to the Clippers Cutting Him

It was a feel-good moment when Chris Paul signed a one-year contract to return to the Los Angeles Clippers this past offseason, for what was expected to be his final NBA season. The 40-year-old previously spent six seasons in the City of Angels, making the franchise a relevant player in the Western Conference again.

Paul is one of the most excellent Clippers of all time and was supposed to end his Hall of Fame career there on a team that was built to win now. Unfortunately, head coach Ty Lue’s team has had a disappointing season thus far, following two consecutive 50-win campaigns. The Clippers currently sit at 5-16 overall, and Paul has really shown his age this season.

Now, Paul took to his Instagram to write this on his story: “Looks like I’m being sent home.”

The twelve-time All-Star was averaging just 2.9 points and 3.3 assists on 32% shooting from the field in his 16 games of action.

Nonetheless, the news that came in the middle of last night was very unexpected. Paul definitely seemed to be caught off guard with his seven-word reaction to his release.

Chris Paul Will Look To Finish His Last NBA Season Somewhere Else

More intel will likely come about the Clippers’ thought process in deciding to release Paul. It’s not a great look on a franchise that has been in hot water for off-the-court scandals the past few months to suddenly release its legendary point guard during his final season, even with his on-court play.

Paul is a basketball savant who could easily help the Clippers even as the last guy on the bench. Of course, having his minutes cut to just 14 a game is something the decorated veteran is not used to.

In his twentieth NBA season last year, Paul played all 82 games for the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 28 minutes a contest. Overall, time will tell if the all-time great can find another NBA home. Due to salary cap implications and Paul’s current one-year $3.63 million contract, the Clippers are unlikely to waive him immediately because of salary cap implications.

The team will therefore likely try to trade him at the December 15 trade eligibility date or wait to see if he agrees to a buyout, even though a buyout of a minimum contract is not typical. Hopefully, this is not the last time we see Paul in the NBA; he deserves a better send-off.
