Is Carmelo Anthony Married? A Look at the NBA Legend’s Love Life Ahead of Hall of Fame Induction

As Carmelo Anthony prepares for his Hall of Fame induction, lets take a look at his marriage history and love life.

A single tear marks Carmelo Anthony’s moment. “A tear coming down for sure. That’s the moment,” the soon-to-be Hall of Famer said on his podcast when asked what his induction ceremony would mean to him.

Now with Saturday’s ceremony approaching, basketball fans worldwide are preparing to celebrate one of the greatest scorers in NBA history. But as the spotlight shines on his legendary career, many fans are also looking back at his personal journey, especially his love life.

What Is Carmelo Anthony’s Current Marital Status?

For fans wondering, the short answer is Anthony is not currently married. However, he was previously married to television personality La La Anthony in what was once one of the most high-profile unions in sports and entertainment.

Anthony and La La’s story began in 2003 when they were introduced by mutual friend DJ Clue. At the time, the forward had just been drafted third overall by the Denver Nuggets, while La La was gaining fame as a VJ on MTV’s Total Request Live.

What started as a friendship quickly blossomed into romance. On Christmas Day 2004, they got engaged. The couple welcomed their only son, Kiyan Carmelo Anthony, in 2007. Three years later, they tied the knot in 2010 with a lavish New York City wedding at Cipriani’s, attended by celebrities, athletes, and friends from both worlds.

But the fairytale marriage eventually unraveled. According to La La, the 2011 trade that sent Anthony from Denver to the New York Knicks marked the beginning of their struggles. The heightened media attention, coupled with lifestyle changes and constant rumors of infidelity, put an immense strain on their relationship.

“I’m from New York, so being here is nothing new. When we lived here under all of that, that’s when things became complicated… Now that I look back, that was kind of the start of the demise of the marriage,” La La said during her appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.

By April 2017, the couple had separated. Though they briefly reconciled, La La officially filed for divorce in June 2021, citing irreconcilable differences.

Despite their split, one thing has remained constant: their dedication to their son Kiyan. Both Anthony and La La have stayed present and supportive as Kiyan begins his own basketball journey.

That unity was on display last year when the proud parents attended together. Kiyan announced on the podcast “7 PM in Brooklyn” that he would commit to Syracuse University, the same program where his father won an NCAA championship in 2003.

“I just want him to go have fun. Go have fun, enjoy the college experience. I want him to enjoy being a college basketball player. That’s a different type of experience. Once you experience that, then you feel like, ‘O.K., O.K.. I’ve got that, now it’s time for me to move on.’ But you can’t move on until you actually experience that,” Anthony said regarding Kiyan in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

How Did Carmelo Anthony Build His Hall of Fame Legacy?

Anthony’s career speaks volumes. He was selected third overall in the 2003 NBA Draft and played 19 seasons in the league, appearing in 1,260 regular-season games and averaging 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.

He’s a 10-time NBA All-Star, a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team, and won the NBA scoring title in 2013. Beyond the league, his Olympic legacy is unmatched, with Anthony winning three gold medals with Team USA.

Now with his Hall of Fame induction ceremony approaching, the basketball world is ready to honor his impact on and off the court. For Anthony, that single tear will capture everything this moment represents.
