During the Brooklyn Nets’ recent media day, Cam Thomas escalated his ongoing beef with Zach Lowe by addressing it. Although the Nets have struggled to establish themselves as postseason contenders after Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden left the team, Thomas has been able to showcase his talents and prove that he is the best young star on their roster.
However, the Nets were not able to finish last season well. They ended up in the 12th position with 26 wins and 56 losses. Lowe is a well-known NBA Insider with various connections across the league. He recently turned many heads by revealing an opinion shared by anonymous executives across the league.
That statement, calling Thomas an “empty calorie ball hog,” spread rapidly across the basketball community, forcing Thomas to respond to the narrative surrounding him and the Nets.

Cam Thomas Accuses Zach Lowe of Spreading Fake Narratives
Due to the control media members, such as Lowe, are given, it is impossible to know if his sources truly made a controversial statement about Thomas. The possibility of the entire story being fabricated is not dismissible.
Although Insiders such as Lowe would risk their reputation and career by reporting false information, Thomas opined that Lowe did just that to make some noise in the middle of a long and tedious offseason.
“People just wanted to do clicks in the offseason… It gets frustrating, whether you want to admit it or not, that people keep trying to spread these narratives and lies about you that just isn’t true without actually looking at the facts and watching our games. Being honest, I’m pretty sure not many people watched the Nets last year that was actually [able] to comment on the situation.”
Nets guard Cam Thomas fired back at Zach Lowe’s “empty calories ball hog” narrative with a strong message to critics:

Thomas defended himself by claiming that the Nets were a top-six team in the East last season before he was injured and sidelined. While that may be the case, Thomas played in just 25 games last season.
While he averaged a respectable 24 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in those games, the Nets had a record of eight wins and 17 losses when he was on the court. That gives some backing to the narrative that he puts up empty numbers that have no real impact on the team.
Another interesting point of view is the Nets star’s claim that anyone who does not watch their team’s games should be disqualified from discussing him and the team. He likely feels that the team is much better than its record indicates and only performed poorly due to injuries and other unforeseen circumstances.
In any case, Thomas has drawn more attention to this negative take surrounding him by addressing it in detail. Fans are left wondering if this report from Lowe could potentially motivate Thomas to carry the Nets to the next level in the upcoming 2025-2026 NBA season.
