BREAKING: LeBron James Agrees to $8 Million Deal With Star-Studded East Team Ahead of 24th NBA Season

After a long wait this summer, 4-time NBA champ LeBron James has announced his free agency decision to take his talents to the East.

LeBron James’ free agency saga has finally reached its conclusion, and the answer came down to a decision that is certainly a twist. After weeks of pitches and speculation, the four-time NBA champion has made his choice.

The news broke on Friday through Shams Charania, who mentioned that the NBA legend would be on a minimum deal with the new team.

LeBron James Is Heading to the Philadelphia 76ers

LeBron James is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, eight million dollar deal with a player option, Klutch Sports Group CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The move ends a free agency process that stretched across several weeks and pulled in at least ten teams before James ultimately chose Philadelphia over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and a handful of other suitors who had remained in contention until the very end.

The financial terms of the deal turned heads across the league. After earning more than $52 million last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, James agreed to a contract that starts near the veteran minimum, a stark reminder that this decision was driven by James’ pursuit of a fifth championship rather than by money.

Having already built a billion-dollar empire, James has the financial flexibility to prioritize contending over maximizing his final paychecks.

Philadelphia’s roster played a central role in getting the deal done. Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown all stayed in regular contact with James throughout the process. Maxey, a fellow Klutch Sports client who has trained with James in the offseason, is also familiar with the former Los Angeles Lakers star.

Sixers owner Josh Harris also met briefly with James at a VIP event during Fanatics Fest in New York last month, a moment that in hindsight now looks like an early sign of where things were headed.

With James in the fold, Philadelphia projects a starting lineup as talented as any in the league.

Maxey slots in at point guard, VJ Edgecombe at shooting guard, Brown at small forward, James at power forward, and Embiid at center, giving the Sixers a group capable of competing with any team in the Eastern Conference from the opening night of the 2026-27 season.

James, now 41, will enter his 24th NBA season chasing his fifth championship and hoping to end a title drought in Philadelphia that stretches back to 1983.

It marks the fourth different franchise he has represented in his career, joining Cleveland, Miami, and the Lakers on a list that already cements him as one of the most well-traveled superstars in league history.

It will be interesting to see if James can bring Philly the chip with a world-class roster.
