The Indiana Pacers saw something special in Bennedict Mathurin when they selected the Canadian player with the sixth overall pick in the 2022 draft. Mathurin had just turned 20 years old at the time, and there was plenty to be excited about for Indiana fans. The sharpshooter was coming off an exceptional year with Arizona, where he was voted the PAC-12 Player of the Year and was a consensus NCAA second-team All-American.
Mathurin’s ability to produce on the offensive end makes him a valuable asset to any NBA team. The talented guard/forward is capable of shooting from behind the arc, shooting from mid-range, or driving to the basket. His ability to work his way up and down the court also makes him a perfect fit for Indiana’s fast-paced style of play.
Now in his third season with the Pacers, Mathurin is proving why he was such a highly sought-after prospect. He adjusted quickly after making the jump to the pros, averaging 16.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in his first year and finishing fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting. Over 209 total NBA games, he is averaging an impressive 15.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Bennedict Mathurin’s Salary and Contract Breakdown
After two exceptional years with the Arizona Wildcats, Mathurin was rewarded for his hard work with a lucrative NBA deal. In 2022, the Pacers signed the rising star to a four-year, $29,936,173 rookie contract.
In his rookie season, Mathurin made $6,586,800. That figure jumped up to $6,916,080 the following season, a pay bump of just over $300,000.
This season, the Pacers star earned $7,245,720, taking his total career salary earnings to over $20,000,000.
Mathurin still has one season remaining on his rookie contract and will receive a significant raise for the 2025-26 season. He is set to make $9,187,573 next season, which seems like a steal for a player who has been a key figure in Indiana’s memorable run to the NBA.
Indiana will have to make a decision on Mathurin following the 2026 season. He is set to become a free agent for the 2026-27 season, and there will be plenty of interest from NBA teams if the Pacers are not able to secure the sharpshooter to a long-term deal.
Mathurin Breaks Playoff Record in Third Season
On May 27, Mathurin broke a postseason record against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the 22-year-old became the first player to record 20 or more points in a playoff game in under 13 minutes.

In Game 4 against the Knicks, Mathurin put on a dazzling display at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, coming off the bench to record 20 points in just 12 minutes and 29 seconds. The Montreal native shot 5-of-8 from the field and converted 10 of his 11 free throws. His contribution turned out to be vital for a Pacers team that went on to edge a 130-121 win to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
