Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was arrested for his involvement in a federal gambling scandal. In such a high-profile case, it’s only natural that many would wonder how the Heat members are processing the situation.
Rozier and Heat center Bam Adebayo have been teammates in South Beach since 2024. Although Rozier was only arrested yesterday, he had been investigated for some time. Now that he’s under arrest, Adebayo gave his first thoughts on what’s been going on with his Heat teammate.
What Did Bam Adebayo Have to Say About Terry Rozier?
While talking with reporters on October 24, Adebayo expressed his sadness about the Rozier situation.
“You support him through and through,” Adebayo told reporters, per The Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds. “That’s our brother at the end of the day. It felt kind of weird without him being here, actually, because he’s the first person I get to talk to in the morning. He brings that great energy to our team.”
“We stand behind him,” he further added. “Full support.”

Rozier has been somewhat of a disappointment since joining the Heat at the trade deadline in 2024. In his first full season in Miami, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 39.1% from the field and 29.5% from three, a far cry from the numbers he regularly put up with the Charlotte Hornets.
That’s not what the Heat had in mind when they first acquired him, and now there’s a strong possibility he may never play another NBA game. Gambling scandals have typically ended careers in professional sports. While everything in this investigation is alleged, the FBI has him under arrest, which would signify that they have a good case against him.
Even if Rozier has not held up his end, it would be a blow to Miami if he never played for them again. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra also extended his support for Rozier.
“He’s had a real positive impact on our locker room, and the staff and players alike, and that includes last year, when he wasn’t in the rotation often times. We send our thoughts and our care for him as he goes through this,” Spoelstra said.
Adebayo is one of the NBA’s best centers, but since the Jimmy Butler era ended, it’s clear that even someone as good as him needs help. That includes having quality players and teammates with whom he gets along, and from the horse’s mouth, Rozier fit that bill.
Adebayo and the rest of the Heat are still picking up the pieces from the Butler era, so with this ongoing investigation, this will make their hopes of becoming an Eastern Conference powerhouse again even tougher. Rozier has denied any wrongdoing through his attorney.
