Bam Adebayo, A’ja Wilson Express Displeasure With Rachel Nichols’ Viral Joke

Here's what Bam Adebayo and A'ja Wilson had to say after hearing a controversial question that Rachel Nichols asked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Sports commentator Rachel Nichols asked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a strange question surrounding Bam Adebayo and A’ja Wilson, prompting the NBA and WNBA stars to address the issue on social media.

Adebayo is well-known across the basketball community due to his position as the center for the Miami Heat. Fans who have been following his personal life will know that the Heat star has been dating Las Vegas Aces star Wilson.

Due to the high-profile nature of their respective jobs, it is no real surprise that Adebayo and Wilson are frequently discussed as some form of basketball power couple. However, Nichols may have taken things too far during her recent interview.

Rachel Nichols Implies That Bam Adebayo and A’ja Wilson Are Expecting a Baby

Although Nichols likely attempted to pass off her question as a mere hypothetical, there is no denying that she turned many heads and inadvertently promoted false news by allowing fans to think that Wilson was pregnant.

All of this took place during Nichols’ interview with Gilgeous-Alexander. She asked if the OKC Thunder GM, Sam Presti, would be present at the sonogram for Adebayo’s and Wilson’s infant. This was clearly an attempt to discuss Pretsi’s impressive and skilled scouting abilities, something that had recently manifested in an NBA championship.

The X account, New York Basketball, posted comments and responses from the stars along with Nichols’ statement.

However, this bizarre example was enough to urge Adebayo and Wilson to respond. The WNBA star wondered if these questions were a product of a “slow day at the office,” commenting, “Yall don’t think this a lil strange orrrr weird..??? But I guess it’s a slow day in the office.”

On the other hand, the Heat center attempted to steer the discussion towards a privacy violation.

By doing so, Adebayo inadvertently fueled the rumors that he will soon become a father, something he may not have intended to do. Having their “personal lives” being dragged into interviews has not gone down well with either of them. He wrote, “This why privacy matters.”

In the midst of this, Presti’s success with the OKC Thunder, which was supposed to be the main point of discussion, seems to have been forgotten. Instead, many may be eager to enter a debate on whether Nichols “crossed the line” with this question to Gilgeous Alexander.

Thankfully, Gilgeous-Alexander had a media-trained response ready for Nichols’ question despite clearly being caught off guard, “Sam takes his job very seriously and whatever it takes to be great, he will do. So if that’s what it takes, that’s what it takes.”

At the end of the day, no one likes being dragged into conversations and being placed under the limelight for no reason. Whether Adebayo and Wilson may have overreacted is another issue to be discussed. Most importantly, members of the media should exercise caution when talking about the personal lives of stars during interviews.
