Anthony Edwards Reveals How He Manifested His NBA Dominance in High School

Minnesota Timberwolves star shooting guard, Anthony Edwards, revealed how he had envisioned becoming the best in the NBA from an early age.

Minnesota Timberwolves star shooting guard Anthony Edwards has been on the ascendancy since making his professional debut in 2020. The 24-year-old has transformed the team’s perception and ideology around him, all the while becoming the face of the franchise.

The former Georgia Bulldogs star was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft by Minnesota and has been exemplary with his playing style in the league since then.

Anthony Edwards Revealed How He Manifested His Dominance in the NBA

During the media day before the training camp, Edwards had a lot to say about the game, himself, his teammates, and the goals he envisions accomplishing both with the team and as an individual in the upcoming NBA season.

Edwards began the press conference by reflecting on his offseason training and what greatness meant to him. He said, “It was a fun process. Every day, just going to the gym knowing what you are going to work on, I think that’s the most fun thing about it. Greatness is boring, so it was a lot of boring days in the gym just working on my one-dribble pull-ups, but I think it benefits me.”

Next, Edwards reflected on how he had envisioned achieving greatness in the NBA from a very young age, which has helped him beat some of the league’s seasoned and successful stars, such as LeBron James, Luka Dončić, and Kevin Durant, during the postseason in recent years.

The three-time NBA All-Star said, “It’s just fun, man. I remember being in high school– and my patna… Quay. I used to tell him when we were in class, like: ‘Bro, I’m telling you, I’m going to be putting belt to a** on these dudes when I get in the league… give me 4 or 5 years, I’m going to be popping boys.'”

Last year, Edwards won gold with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics and later on led his team towards a back-to-back to the Western Conference Finals. While the Timberwolves failed to advance to the NBA Finals for a second season in a row, this has not dented Edwards’ firm resolve towards chasing the ultimate glory for himself and his team.

Edwards Has a Simple Strategy for Regular-Season Games Against Subpar Teams

Considering how he can better some subpar performances against underperforming teams during the regular season, Edwards said, “Try to get a career-high in points. I think that’s how I’m gonna do it. Because usually I approach it like, ahh I’m gonna let me let my teammates get their sh*t off.”

The Timberwolves will kick off their preseason journey on Saturday night at Pechanga Arena, with the opening game against the Denver Nuggets. Edwards and Co. will commence their journey in the 2025-26 NBA season with a game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center on October 22.
