It’s been nearly three months since we last saw Anthony Davis take on the hardwood. Davis, who’s had a rollercoaster season, has been sidelined due to injury since January. The injury occurred when he was still playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
Come February, Davis was traded to the Washington Wizards, and many wondered if he’d suit up for the team this season. Since the trade in February, AD has yet to play a game for the Wizards, prompting many to question when the big man will return.
Anthony Davis Potential Return Timeline
Nearly a couple of months have passed since Davis was traded to the Wizards. While many were excited to see what the Davis and Trae Young tandem could look like, it seems Washington is tanking this season.
Davis has yet to play a single game for the Wizards this season. With only seven games remaining in the Wizards’ regular season, the clock is ticking for AD to make his return.
The Wizards recently uploaded a press release on X regarding Davis’ injury status. The team announced that AD’s recovery is going accordingly and is on track to make a full return.
“Davis, who is out with ligament damage in his left hand, was reevaluated on Monday by Dr. Steven Shin of Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Davis’ recovery continues to progress as expected and is healing on schedule. He has been cleared for light contact as he progresses toward his full return. Updates will be provided as appropriate,” the statement reads.

While the news sounds optimistic, the Wizards didn’t necessarily say when his comeback will be. According to several sources, it’s still a possibility that Davis might sit out the remainder of the season.
Honestly, that wouldn’t be a bad plan on the Wizards’ end. Looking at their current standing, the team is in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a 17-58 record. Forcing Davis to play wouldn’t make sense, given that Washington won’t make the playoffs, and it would put their star player at risk of another unwanted injury.
As of this writing, sources report that the Wizards have the highest odds of securing the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft this summer. This gives the team more reasons to sit Davis out. They wouldn’t want to pass up on the opportunity to draft prospects like AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, or Cameron Boozer.
