Is Anthony Davis Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update On Mavericks Star For Pistons Game

Find out if Anthony Davis is healthy and will play in the Dallas Mavericks' upcoming matchup against the Detroit Pistons.

As the Dallas Mavericks prepare for an upcoming matchup against the Detroit Pistons, Anthony Davis’ current injury status remains a concern for the Mavericks’ fan base.

After acquiring Davis towards the end of last season, the Mavericks have done their best to keep their championship aspirations alive. Securing the first pick in the 2025 NBA draft and using it to acquire Cooper Flagg reassured fans to some extent about the team’s potential and future.

Nevertheless, the Mavericks have started the season slowly and currently hold a record of two wins and three losses. Moreover, Davis appeared to sustain an injury during a recent game against the Indiana Pacers. As a result, his status and presence for the Mavs-Pistons match are questionable.

Will Anthony Davis Suit Up Against the Detroit Pistons?

Fans who watched the game between the Mavericks and Pacers will know that Davis exited the court after playing just seven minutes of the first quarter and did not return.

Although the Mavericks ended up winning with a final score of 105-107, it was soon reported that Davis had sustained an injury, prompting the Mavs fanbase to speculate about the exact nature of his injury. It was later revealed that the Mavericks star has been diagnosed with a calf strain and may miss a few games.

As a result, Davis is not expected to play in this matchup against the Pistons. While some may have hoped that the rest of the Mavericks were completely healthy, Kyrie Irving, Dante Exum, Dereck Lively II, and D’Angelo Russell are also dealing with injuries and will be sidelined.

This puts more pressure on Cooper Flagg, Klay Thompson, and the remaining available stars for the Mavericks. After all, they have entered this season with higher expectations when compared to the Pistons and will be expected to win, with or without Davis.

What Is the Condition of the Detroit Pistons?

After struggling greatly during the 2023-2024 season, Cade Cunningham and the Pistons managed to qualify for the Eastern Conference playoffs in the 2024-25 season. They ultimately lost to Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks in the first round.

While that may sound anticlimactic, fans should remember that the Mavericks did not even make the playoffs last season, making the Pistons the superior team, in a sense.

After adding experienced stars such as Duncan Robinson and Tobias Harris to their roster, the Pistons appear relatively healthy and will only be missing Jaden Ivey and Marcus Sasser. They also hold a record of three wins and two losses and are coming off a victory against the Orlando Magic.

Since the Mavericks are not expected to play Davis, Irving, and several other players, it will be difficult for them to get this win against the Pistons. Fans are left wondering how Davis’ absence will impact the team and whether Flagg will be able to capitalize on the situation and showcase his skills.
