It’s reasonably fair to assume that many people would get starstruck when they see Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler III. However, the tables were turned when Butler seemed captivated by soccer player Alex Morgan.

Jimmy Butler III Hails Alex Morgan as the Bigger Superstar
As one of the NBA’s most prominent players, it’s rare to find Butler as the lesser star in a room of people. However, that was exactly what happened when he found himself in a room with Morgan, who is a former professional soccer player.
The Warriors star himself made that admission, and it was all caught on film.
“We got all types of superstars, I’ll let y’all know,” Butler said. “Not me.”
Then he started pointing toward Morgan while mouthing her name. He repeatedly said, “That’s Alex Morgan,” seemingly in awe of being in the same room as the soccer legend.

Both Butler and Morgan are part of San Diego Wave FC, a professional soccer team that plays in the NWSL.
Morgan had previously played for the club from 2022 until her retirement in 2024. Later, in 2025, she joined the club as one of its minority investors. She shared that her attachment to San Diego goes beyond sports in a statement ESPN published in 2025, when she became an investor.
“San Diego is where I’ve built my home, where I am raising my children, and found a purpose beyond my playing career,” Morgan said.
“I believed in Wave FC before a single match was played, and I still believe this club has the power to change the future of women’s sports,” she added. “I’m proud to invest in that future and not just as a player, but now as an investor.”
Butler joined Morgan as an investor not long after, with the announcement officially made in October 2025.
Butler said, “Soccer has been a passion of mine for a long time, and being part of the game in a meaningful way has always been a dream.”

“San Diego has become a city close to my heart, and I’m proud to invest in a Club that is pushing boundaries, building something lasting, and setting a new standard for what women’s sports can be both on and off the pitch,” the 6-time All Star added.
Aside from investing in the San Diego-based soccer club, Morgan has also helped grow women’s sports beyond soccer. She is one of the investors in Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 basketball league founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
Morgan invested in the league as part of Trybe Ventures, a firm she co-founded with her husband, Servando Carrasco.
