Should You Draft Al Horford in Fantasy Basketball?

The Warriors have spoken highly of Al Horford’s versatility since signing him at the start of training camp, particularly his floor-spacing ability. While the savvy 19-year veteran could deliver in key moments, including in the playoffs, his season-long fantasy value may be another story.

During his age-38 campaign with Boston, Horford’s workload was carefully managed, with him routinely sitting out one leg of back-to-back sets. The five-time All-Star still posted respectable numbers for his age when available, averaging 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 1.9 3-pointers per game. However, he shot a career-worst 42.3% from the field.

With Golden State likely to take a similarly cautious approach, Horford seems unlikely to amount to more than a deep-league asset, with greater appeal in category formats. That said, between the 39-year-old’s availability concerns and the potential for further decline, he may not be worth the hassle.
