Former 3-time NBA champion Danny Green predicted that Kevin Durant would make a shock return to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The sharpshooter believed that the Phoenix Suns’ superstar would consider suiting up for his former franchise as he enters the final stages of his decorated career.
Speaking on the ‘Gil’s Arena Podcast, Green labeled the Thunder outfit ‘good’, when talking about the choices the veteran forward has heading into the offseason. “I think something wants him to get back there again. They’re a good team again.”

Durant is one of the big names expected to be on the move after spending three seasons with the Suns. He was reported to be moved ahead of the trade deadline but finished his season with the side as they finished the regular season with a 36-46 record. He ended the season averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 0.8 steals per contest.
Green’s take comes after Durant was linked to over three teams, with the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat looked at as strong candidates. This was primarily due to the assets they have in their fold to make a move for a big name. Per multiple reports, the Minnesota Timberwolves were also listed as one of the potential landing spots. For now, all signs point to Durant staying in the West, including Green’s take of the forward likely returning to the Thunder.

NBA Insiders Believe Kevin Durant Is Reportedly Interested Playing In Houston
NBA insiders Sam Amick and Kelly Iko of The Athletic believed Kevin Durant was reportedly keen on lacing up for the Rockets. However, they also added that the Western Conference unit was weighing the 36-year-old’s age as a factor.
“He is known to be very interested in playing in Houston,” Kelly Iko and Sam Amick of The Athletic wrote earlier this week. “Team sources said the Rockets still have significant reservations about that possible partnership, largely because Durant’s age (36) would be so out of sync with their younger timeline.”
While his age might be a reservation for the Rockets, the 15-time NBA All-Star comes off three solid seasons. During his stint with the franchise, Durant averaged 26.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.2 blocks, while shooting 52.7% from the field and 42.7% from the deep.
Adding star power in Durant will boost their chances of winning the title, especially after a promising 2024-25 season where they finished as the No. 2 seed.
Durant’s new landing spot will continue to be a topic of discussion and only time will tell if he ends up in Texas or reunites with his old team where he played for nine seasons.
