3 Records LeBron James Can Break In 2025 NBA Playoffs

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is on the verge of breaking several playoff records in the 2025 postseason

It has been 7,843 days since 18-year-old LeBron James took the court to make his NBA debut. That special night in Sacramento would get the ball rolling on what has turned out to be one of the greatest NBA careers of all time.

Now, in his 22nd season as a professional, LeBron James has put together an eye-popping resume that includes numerous championships and a long list of personal accolades. In February 2023, the Lakers star surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s tally of 38,387 to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. He also holds the record for minutes and games with 20 or more points. No player has as many All-NBA first-team selections as the Ohio native and his 22 All-Star appearances is a number that will likely never be matched.

With the Lakers set to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the postseason, James will be well aware of the fact that he is within touching distance of several historic feats. When it comes to the playoffs, James is one of the game’s most decorated superstars. Over an incredible 287 playoff games that led to four NBA championships, the 40-year-old has racked up an impressive career stat line.

James has already ranks atop the NBA’s all-time playoff list for games, minutes, points, steals and field goals. This year, he is in line to break a few more of those records.

Records LeBron James can break in 2025 NBA Playoffs

NBA Playoff TripleDoubles Record

Magic Johnson hit the ground running after being selected as the first overall pick by the Lakers in 1979, winning the NBA championship in his rookie season. Over 190 playoff games, he logged an absurd 30 triple-doubles, a feat that many experts thought would never be replicated.

Entering the 2025 postseason, James is just two triple-doubles shy of Johnson’s record. James has 151 career triple-doubles (regular season and postseason) and finished with 10 over the regular season. It is not inconceivable for him to pick up a few more in the coming month.

Total Conference Finals Appearances

If the Lakers can somehow maneuver their way through a competitive Western Conference, James could return to the conference finals for the 13th time in his career. In his second year in the league, the talented guard carried the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference finals, his first-ever conference finals appearance. In the 2008-09 campaign, James went one step further, reaching the NBA finals for the first time in his career.

Overall, James has reached 12 conference finals with three different franchises, with onnly Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ahead of him 13 across 20 seasons. The Lakers have a long way to go before they can secure a spot in the final four, but with James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves gelling the way they are, the possibility of a deep playoff run is not out of reach.

Most Playoff Assists

James already holds the points and steals record in the playoffs, but this one may be a little harder to attain. Magic Johnson is the only player that sits ahead of James in the all-time playoff assists category in NBA history. He finished with 2,346 assists from 13 seasons, with James trailing him by 279 assists.

This season, the 40-year-old has averaged 8.8 assists per game and if he can somehow manage 12-13 apg over a lengthy playoff run, the four-time MVP could have a slim chance of catching Johnson. If not, there is always next season for James, who doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
