Where Will Byrum Brown Land Next?

While Auburn appears to be a logical destination given Brown’s history with former USF head coach Alex Golesh, who now leads the program at Auburn, another SEC powerhouse has emerged as a serious contender. Lane Kiffin and LSU also pose as a great fit for the veteran signal-caller.

Kiffin is taking over in Baton Rouge and actively reshaping the Tigers’ roster. With his track record of developing quarterbacks, Brown could be the ideal piece to lead next season’s offense.

Brown proved himself elite during the 2025 campaign, leading USF to a 9-4 record. That run included a statement win over SEC opponent Florida, a victory that put his talents on the national map. During the season, Brown threw for 3,158 yards and 28 touchdowns. He added 1,008 rushing yards and 14 scores on the ground, establishing himself as an accurate dual-threat weapon.

Across his collegiate career, the numbers tell a dominant story. Brown has totaled 7,690 passing yards with 61 touchdowns, alongside 2,265 rushing yards and 31 scores. He boasts a 64.9 % completion rate and even added a receiving touchdown during his 2024 season.

Why Is LSU Considered a Favorite?

LSU is actively searching for a starter to lead its roster. Their 2025 quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier, is viewed as a potential NFL draft candidate. With Nussmeier not returning and the program undergoing a transition with new head coach Lane Kiffin, the quarterback position becomes a priority when the transfer portal opens Jan. 2, 2026.

Kiffin’s offensive philosophy makes Brown a natural fit. During his time at Ole Miss, Kiffin successfully developed Jaxon Dart after bringing him in through the portal. He helped turn Dart into a highly productive quarterback in the SEC, and now he is with the New York Giants.

At USF, Brown showed he could command an offense. LSU presents him with a clear opportunity to secure a starting role and increase his national exposure. Playing in the SEC under a coach like Kiffin, who values quarterback play, could help him grow as a player and potentially boost his NFL Draft stock.

As the transfer portal window approaches, Brown is expected to be highly sought after. While several programs may pursue him, LSU stands out as one of the most logical landing spots because it offers a starting opportunity in a system with long-term benefits.
