With the 2025 NBA Draft complete, the focus now moves to grading teams for their selections. The Golden State Warriors earned a poor mark after a draft that failed to generate much buzz.
The Warriors had two second-round picks, selecting Australian wing Alex Toohey at No. 52 and Florida guard Will Richard at No. 56.

Golden State Warriors Get Underwhelming Grade in 2025 NBA Draft
According to PFSN’s latest rankings, the Warriors received a disappointing “C” grade for their 2025 NBA Draft picks. With Toohey, the team adds a promising wing with defensive upside. At 6-foot-8 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, he has an NBA-ready frame, though his athleticism remains in question. His strengths include size, decision-making, and the potential to develop into a reliable 3-and-D forward.
In a similar move, Golden State selected Richard, a player who brings defense, rebounding, and some athleticism. His offensive game needs work, but for a team known for playing fast-paced, pass-heavy basketball, the Florida standout is a decent addition.
The draft was low-risk, but neither player adds much excitement to a Warriors team trying to stay in title contention during the Stephen Curry-Jimmy Butler era.

In related news, Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy explained why the front office has been hesitant to trade future draft picks while trying to build a competitive roster around Curry and Butler. Speaking on Friday’s episode of “The TK Show” with Tim Kawakami, Dunleavy said, “We’re probably more protective of them than most teams.”
“The good news is, you know, if there’s a player that you can call on or reach out, you know, is available, we’re going to be in the game,” he added.
“Because not knowing after a few years what our roster is, the uncertainty of that, of putting those picks out in the future, which, on the market, makes them more valuable, but for us they’re a little bit more dangerous, so we’ve got to walk that line.”
It’s worth noting that Curry and Draymond Green will be unrestricted free agents heading into the 2027-28 NBA season. Age is also a concern, including for Butler, who will be a free agent in 2027 after signing a two-year, $112 million extension earlier this February.
Golden State made the playoffs this season, but with an ill-timed injury that sidelined Curry, they were outplayed by the Minnesota Timberwolves and lost the series 4-1. Now, the team hopes that smart upgrades, better chemistry, and improved health will help them compete in a loaded Western Conference.
