Tyrese Haliburton Credits HC Rick Carlisle’s Advice For Taking His ‘Career to Another Level’

Tyrese Haliburton's improvement from good to a great player has been incredible, and he credits Rick Carlisle for the transformation.

Rick Carlisle’s second coaching term with the Indiana Pacers saw them reach the 2025 NBA Finals. He arrived in 2021 and acquired Tyrese Haliburton from the Sacramento Kings to lead the point guard position. Since then, the franchise has been firing on all cylinders with a perfect balance throughout the roster.

Moreover, Haliburton’s game improved drastically, and he became an all-around threat on the floor. With his coaching experience, Carlisle tailored him to perfection, and we have one of the best stars in the league. Of course, Haliburton credited Carlisle for transforming his career.

Tyrese Haliburton Credits Rick Carlisle for Turning His Career Around

After winning his first NBA title as a coach with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, he waited 14 years to guide a team to the NBA Finals. And with Haliburton in his team, those dreams are getting closer. The point guard credited the coach for improving his game and spoke about Carlisle gleefully.

“Coach has really helped me to watch the film the right way. Watch the whole game, not just my minutes, but watch the other guys’ minutes and see where I can help other guys. All that stuff is really important. Really taken my career to another level,” said Haliburton in the pre-game press conference regarding Carlisle’s ability to get the best out of players.

Watching basketball clips enables players to know their positives and negatives. It encourages the players to aid in decision-making, better spacing, the right time to take shots, and even marking opposition players.

Considering the defense he played at the Kings, you could see a tremendous improvement in Haliburton’s defense.

Haliburton said in the pre-game press conference, “He’s just a basketball savant. We meet, we talk all the time. I think he’s really helped me learn how to watch film, which I think is important. I think that’s something that’s not talked about enough. Especially young basketball players, you can just watch film, but if you’re just watching and trying to find your highlights, that’s much different than really trying to dissect things.”

Haliburton To Miss Game 3 Against the Thunder?

He spoke about ball hogging for 15-16 seconds, and releasing the ball quickly transformed Haliburton’s game. The entire credit goes to Carlisle’s unique player management and ability to make a player go from good to great.

With slight injury concerns for Haliburton ahead of Game 3, Carlisle squashed those rumors in the pre-game press conference.

“At this time of year, I don’t know if anybody’s feeling perfect, Joe. How do you feel? You feel all right? He practiced. He went through everything. I know he has some discomfort. He feels it. But each day, it’s getting better. I don’t think you’re going to hear him making a big deal out of it,” mentioned Carlisle.

Game 3 will be an interesting battle between the top teams, with another clutch performance expected from Haliburton by the NBA fraternity. Let the best team win at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
