The Oklahoma City Thunder are back in the NBA Finals for the first time in over a decade. As the team prepares for their biggest challenge yet, one rising Thunder star had something to say to the doubters.
With fans cheering and booing from all sides, Jalen Williams used social media to send a clear message. It’s the kind of statement that shows just how confident this Thunder team is heading into the NBA Finals.
Jalen Williams Claps Back at the Critics
Williams is done listening to critics. And just before the Thunder’s biggest series in over a decade, he made that crystal clear with an Instagram post that caught everyone’s attention.
“Your boos don’t mean anything to me, I’ve seen what you people cheer for,” Williams wrote, throwing in a twist on a famous Rick and Morty quote.

Fans of the adult cartoon show might recognize the original line from the genius-slash-chaotic scientist Rick: “Your boos mean nothing, I’ve seen what makes you cheer.” Williams gave the phrase his own spin, but the message was the same – he’s not here for approval.
The timing of the post couldn’t have been more perfect. With the Thunder making their first NBA Finals appearance since 2012, the spotlight is intense. And with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander getting booed heavily during Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals in Minnesota, it’s clear this young Thunder team is feeling the heat.
But Williams, who’s been averaging 20.4 points per game in the 2025 playoffs and locking in on defense, isn’t backing down.
Thunder Eyes Redemption As NBA Finals Near
The Thunder’s return to the NBA Finals marks a new era. The last time OKC reached the NBA Finals, it was Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden taking on the Miami Heat and LeBron James in his prime. Twelve years later, it’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a new-look Thunder team hoping for a different ending.
The Pacers, on the other hand, haven’t reached the Finals since 2000 when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers and prime Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. The 2025 NBA Finals will be a battle of underdogs, and Gainbridge Fieldhouse is expected to be loud.
Williams isn’t the only one channeling the doubters for motivation. Center Isaiah Hartenstein echoed the same mindset in a recent interview with OKC Thunder Wire.
“I think in the playoffs, you always have to prove yourself again,” Hartenstein said. “We’re not a team that wants anything given to us. We want to go out and conquer, go out and hunt.”
He added, “It doesn’t matter what happened before. Even in a playoff series, it doesn’t matter what happened before.”

Meanwhile, Gilgeous-Alexander, the newly crowned NBA MVP, has faced plenty of hostility from opposing fans. During Game 3 against Minnesota, he was hit with nonstop boos and chants of free-throw merchant every time he stepped to the line.
But with Williams, SGA, and the rest of the Thunder squad leaning into the noise rather than running from it, OKC is entering the Finals with the will to prove and the confidence to back it up.
