Phoenix Suns superstar and NBA legend Kevin Durant is widely considered one of the greatest players to ever lace up sneakers. Durant, who currently ranks eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, surpassed the 30,000-point milestone this past season.
A two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP, Durant has built his legacy as one of the most prolific and efficient scorers in league history. With a near 7’0″ frame, he can get to the rim with ease, pull up after a crossover, and drain catch-and-shoot threes.
Given his offensive brilliance, many fans have wondered what goes into his preparation and how he thinks about the game. Recently, Durant offered some insight.

Kevin Durant Gives Explanation on Offensive Process and Strategy
Durant, often known for interacting with fans on social media, took to Twitter to respond to questions about his game. While he’s no stranger to clapping back at critics, this time he shared more of his offensive mindset.
I think I stop at the middy on my way to the rim because there is no space for lay ups…so I am pressuring the rim.

When asked why he doesn’t drive to the rim as much anymore, especially with age, Durant replied:
“I think I stop at the middy on my way to the rim because there is no space for lay ups … so I am pressuring the rim.”
“Paint clogged, middy works. Usually the paint is clogged when the big can’t shoot.”
In just a few lines, Durant revealed the precision behind his approach. He adjusts based on spacing, personnel, and reads. Even while watching the playoffs from home, his understanding of game flow and spacing continues to highlight why he’s still one of the smartest players in the league.
Where Will Durant Play Next Season?
Looking ahead, the biggest question surrounding Durant is where he’ll play next. The Suns missed the playoffs this season, and while they could try to run it back with Durant and Devin Booker, the future is far from certain. Durant turns 37 this year and is entering his 19th NBA season.
Could he land in Houston, as some rumors suggest? Might the success of the Oklahoma City Thunder lure him back to the franchise where his career began? Or could another reunion be in the works?
Some have floated the idea of Durant joining the Boston Celtics alongside Team USA teammate Jayson Tatum. Others imagine a return to the Bay Area, teaming up again with Stephen Curry — and potentially Jimmy Butler.
Wherever he ends up, the next chapter of Durant’s career will be one of the biggest storylines in the offseason.
