The New York Knicks are currently in peril as they are down 0-2 to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. New York being in the conference finals would remind many older fans of the days when they watched the Knicks make deep playoff runs.
The days of Charles Oakley, Patrick Ewing, and others blitzing down the court in an effort to find easy buckets are some of the memories that long-time fans hold. For these fans, it’s a cause of sadness that the relationship between the team and one of their famed players soured over time. Oakley has been at odds with the Knicks for quite some time now, but could there be some hope that the feud could eventually come to an end?

Should Charles Oakley Take the Deal To Return to Madison Square Garden?
Oakley was treated like a legend when he entered Madison Square Garden until an unfortunate incident in February 2017 led to his ban by Knicks owner James Dolan. Oakley eventually had his ban lifted, but he was only allowed to buy tickets to attend games.

With the once-beloved legend on the outs with the Knicks, it seemed as if the relationship was potentially irreparable due to the nature of the situation and Oakley’s pride. Recently, the Knicks made it clear that they would welcome back Oakley on one condition.
The condition is that he needs to drop the lawsuit against Dolan and MSG. The lawsuit, which doesn’t seem to have strong legs to stand on, has been dismissed a few times, but Oakley has appealed this decision on a few occasions. One would assume that Oakley finally letting this go would result in a reunion between himself and the Knicks.
Can the Knicks Make a Comeback?
While Oakley could potentially return to the family, it seems the Knicks need to return to form. After losing home-court advantage and dropping two straight in Madison Square Garden to the Pacers, New York’s NBA Finals hopes are going up in flames.
After an epic meltdown in Game 1, the Knicks couldn’t quite close things out in Game 2. The path to win will be even harder in Indiana as well. Could the Knicks do the unthinkable and win these next two on the road?

If Oakley ever decides to squash his issues with the team and let the lawsuit go, perhaps he could be in the stands cheering when New York makes its next run at the playoffs. Or if they can mount a comeback, perhaps Oakley could be inside the Garden for the Finals. It would be a perfect ending.
