After making one of the most universally hated trades in NBA history, the Dallas Mavericks are suddenly back on track after winning the 2025 NBA Draft lottery. However, to win a title, Jason Kidd and Nico Harrison will have to be on the same page. Kidd made it clear that such is the case with those two.
On May 19, Kidd discussed his relationship with Harrison and explained where he stands regarding the Mavericks’ executive.
Jason Kidd Supports Nico Harrison
During his appearance on DLLS Sports, Kidd cut straight to the point while discussing Harrison.
“My relationship with Nico is at a high,” Kidd said. “Understanding business is part of the game of basketball. I’ve been a part of it as a player and coach, so understanding the vision of winning a championship is what Nico is here to do, and I’m in full support of that.”
The Mavericks suddenly have new life again, as they are expected to take Cooper Flagg on Draft Night next month. Doing so pairs him up with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis next season, essentially forming a “Big 3” in Dallas.
Not only that, but Flagg single-handedly gives the Mavericks hope if and when Irving and Davis either leave the team or retire. The Duke prospect enters the NBA projected to be a superstar. No matter how much he can contribute out of the gate, Flagg is expected to be ready right away for the big boys.
Drafting Flagg doesn’t erase that Harrison traded Luka Dončić in one of the worst trades ever, but the Mavericks winning a few titles over the next decade could certainly help the fanbase move past that.
What certainly helps is having a unified front between Harrison and Kidd. The Mavericks have seen a fair amount of success with those two, though that was before Dončić was sent to the Los Angeles Lakers. That shouldn’t be questioned as long as Kidd and Harrison still have a shared view on what will bring another title to the franchise.

Flagg will basically be Dončić’s replacement, which could bring the Mavericks to a level they haven’t consistently seen since the Dirk Nowitzki days. It will be up to Dallas to build the best team around him. Davis and Irving are a pretty good start, and the Mavericks have plenty of good surrounding pieces to vault them back to contention.
After the Mavericks went through one of the most surreal situations an NBA team has ever gone through, they’ve miraculously come out of it smelling like roses. It’ll be on Kidd and Harrison to keep it that way.
