In a video that went viral on X, Irving can be seen walking with assistance, wearing resistance bands, and doing early-stage rehabilitation exercises.

This is the first glimpse Irving has shared of his recovery process, and the video also includes a new rap song he recorded.

Dr. Ri͏le͏y J. Williams operated ͏on͏ Irv͏ing͏ on March 2͏6 at the Hospital for ͏Special Surgery in New York ͏City. Despite his lengthy rehabilitation at age 33, he’s expected to make a full-strength recovery due ͏to advancements in ACL treatment and elite training.͏ ͏The eight-to-12-month recovery timeline puts him on track for a return around early 2026.

Irvi͏ng͏ ͏has been concentrating on decreasing swelling, restoring range of ͏motion, and getting ready for more rigorous physical͏ ͏therapy for the first few weeks.

Two weeks ago, Irving wrote the following about his rehab: “My recovery/rehab is going really well, I appreciate you asking. I am keeping GOD 1st always through all my endeavors,” Irving said. “I pray you and your family are doing well! Don’t ever take waking up another Day on Earth for granted, because no one is promised that. Hélà.”

Despite ͏playing just 3͏͏6 games ͏during the 20͏2͏͏4–25 season, Irving͏ ͏posted impressive ͏͏averages of 2͏4.7͏ points, 4.8 ͏rebounds, ͏and 4.͏6 ͏assists͏. ͏The Mavericks ͏made ͏͏the Play-In Tournament appearance but͏ failed to ͏reach the playoffs after the shocking midseason trade of Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, reinforcements are on the way.

Despite having 1.8% lottery odds, the Mavs secured the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, winning the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes. Irving reacted with pure disbelief and delight, showing his ongoing commitment to the team. The Mavericks are expected to select Flagg, a Duke phenom (like Irving) and potential franchise cornerstone. Dallas could eventually have dynamic trio of Flagg, Anthony Davis, and a healthy Irving.

Irving’s contract situation is also worth noting. There are rumblings that he opt out of his $43.9 million player option for 2025–26 in order to negotiate a new multi-year contract (perhaps one that matches Davis’ three-year, $175.4 million agreement). Mavs GM Nico Harrison has raved about Irving and stressed that he’s a cornerstone piece moving forward.

“There aren’t words to fully describe who Kyrie Irving is to this team or what he means to us as an organization,” Harrison said. “Kyrie is the heart and soul of this team, and he has embraced the city of Dallas as his home and our fans as an extension of his own family.

“His work ethic and absolute dedication to his craft, it’s cut from the cloth of greats. I know it, I lived it, and I see the same ferocity and passion in him that I saw in Kobe [Bryant].”
