Buddy Hield’s name has become familiar in NBA circles, especially after his standout 33-point Game 7 performance. But beyond the stats is a life shaped by determination, strong family bonds, and faith.
From growing up in a crowded home in the Bahamas to raising a family of his own, Hield’s personal journey offers a closer look at what fuels his drive on and off the court.

Buddy Hield’s Journey with a Devoted Mother Who Raised Seven Kids
Hield’s mother, Jackie Swann, has been a source of strength ever since she divorced his father, Vincent Hield, when Buddy was only 11 years old. After the divorce, she raised her seven children in her mother’s small three-bedroom house in Eight Mile Rock, a township near Freeport, Bahamas.
Jackie worked multiple jobs to support the family such as house cleaning, catering weddings, and sales. She often reminded her kids (via Post Bulletin) that, “We may not have a lot of things, but it’s enough.” She is also a devoted Christian who oversaw daily Bible studies, ensured regular church attendance, and even organized group prayers by phone when the family was apart.
During his senior year at the University of Oklahoma, she moved in with his brother B.J. Simmons. Buddy cherished having her around during his transition from college to the NBA, telling The Comeback: “She’s helped me with the process, and helped keep my mind at ease.” He elaborated later, saying: “She is always telling me if it wasn’t for God I wouldn’t be here today.”
During an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2016, people got to see her soft nature and empathy. She said, “I pray for all the boys, not just for Buddy. I pray for the teams he’s playing against, because that’s everybody’s dream. Everybody works hard to get where they are, all the kids push themselves to get there, and I pray that God will continue to bless them all”
Married to Remi Martinii With 2 Beautiful Children
Hield is in a long-term relationship with Bahamian model and entrepreneur Remi Martinii and their relationship was kept private at first. They had their first daughter in 2017, named Rainer Cali Hield. Her name is a tribute to Hield’s full name Chavano Rainer Hield. They also had a son in 2021, named River.
Remi has shared that ever since she became a mother, her relationship with God has strengthened, and she strives to be the best role model for her children.
Hield keeps things pretty grounded off the court, focusing on family and staying close to the people who matter most. He and Remi seem to live a low-key life with their kids, keeping it simple and real.
