Egor Demin is not your typical draft prospect — he’s a standout playmaker with court vision beyond his years. After just one season in college, he’s already turning heads. Now, he’s ready to take the leap into the NBA. So, what’s behind all the hype?
Who Is Russian NBA Prospect Egor Demin?
Demin was born in Moscow on March 3, 2006, and is now one of the most intriguing names in the 2025 NBA Draft class. A dynamic point guard, he’s known for his quick decision-making, creativity, and elite playmaking ability.
He started his basketball journey in Russia, showing serious promise from a young age. At just 15, he moved to Spain to join the prestigious Real Madrid basketball academy, a program that has produced several NBA-caliber players, including, most notably, Luka Dončić.
Demin’s BYU Career
Demin made waves during the 2024–25 season at Brigham Young University, helping drive the Cougars to one of their best seasons in years. He chose BYU after a standout run with Real Madrid’s youth squad, becoming the program’s first-ever five-star recruit.
In his college debut against Central Arkansas, Demin dropped 18 points and 11 assists — the most assists ever by a BYU player in their first game. He joined Trae Young as one of only two freshmen in recent history to record a double-double in their debut.
Over 33 games, he averaged 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. His consistent performances earned him Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors twice — on November 11 and November 18, 2024 — and he later landed a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. He also received an honorable mention for the All-Big 12 squad.
Thanks in large part to Demin’s leadership, BYU went 26–10 and made it to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. He played a key role in their opening-round win over VCU, putting up 15 points in an 80–71 victory, though he ultimately struggled during The Big Dance.
Demin’s Decision To Enter the 2025 NBA Draft
Demin chose to forego his remaining college eligibility and enter the 2025 NBA Draft. He’s projected to go in the mid-to-late first round, going No. 8 in PFSN’s latest 2025 NBA Mock Draft from analyst Kyle Soppe.
“Egor Demin’s positional versatility may be his most enticing attribute. At 6’9″ and 190 pounds, the BYU standout possesses an interesting physical profile for a guard. His size advantage, ball-handling ability, and basketball IQ could make him a versatile creator at the next level,” Soppe said.
“However, there are serious concerns about Demin’s abilities as a shooter. He averaged just 10.6 points this season while shooting 41.2% from the field and 27.3% from deep. He also struggled at the free-throw line, making just 69.5% of his attempts from the stripe. Can he create his own shots and consistently knock them down? Big question mark.”
According to Dana Green of Yahoo Sports, during an April 10 press conference, Demin announced his draft intentions, saying, “I’m super excited to announce that I will be putting my name in the 2025 NBA Draft. It’s a challenge I am willing to take.”
At 6’9″ with point guard skills and international experience, Demin offers a unique blend of size and versatility that NBA teams are always hunting for. He’s a name to watch as draft season heats up.
