XX-XY Athletics Founder, Jennifer Sey, has made it clear over the past several weeks that she’s a staunch supporter of the Indiana Fever. This is due to their star, Sophie Cunningham’s, stance against trans women entering the WNBA.
So much so that she’s inviting celebrities who align with her ideals to watch Fever games with her.
Jennifer Sey Invites Hugh Laurie to Watch a Fever Game with Her
Most remember Hugh Laurie from media such as ‘Stuart Little’ and ‘House’. Now, he’s making a name for himself on social media by opposing the potential inclusion of trans women in the WNBA.
He recently put out a tweet responding to an X user saying, “Firstly, [expletive] off; secondly no, I don’t believe men should compete against women. I thought I’d made that pretty clear. If you’d looked. But obviously you must get onto your next.”
This was in response to something the user had said but then deleted.
Jennifer saw this tweet from Laurie and reposted it with the caption, “I’d like to extend an invitation to join me at the Indiana Fever game on Aug 22 in NY. They will play the NY Liberty. It will be fun.”
.@hughlaurie I’d like to extend an invitation to join me at the Indiana Fever game on Aug 22 in NY. They will play the NY Liberty. It will be fun. We love having you on team no men in women’s sports. So think of it as a thank you. I’ve got floor seats. C’mon! https://t.co/ig6d5qEXd6

This isn’t surprising given that Sey and Laurie share similar sentiments.
“We love having you on team no men in women’s sports. So, think of it as a thank you. I’ve got floor seats. C’mon!” continued Sey.
There has been an increase in Cunningham supporters over the past few weeks since her comments.
Another one of Laurie’s tweets read, “I support Sophie Cunningham.”
This isn’t the first time Sey has established that her and her company’s morals align with Sophie’s. Using the company X account, she criticized the WNBA for failing to draw inspiration from other leagues, such as the WTA or the UCI.
The aforementioned leagues have barred trans women, individuals assigned male at birth, and people who have gone through male puberty from participating in women’s sporting events.
The WNBA has yet to release its own set of tenets regarding trans eligibility. Adding to the pressure to come up with the guidelines, former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White have threatened to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft.
So, until the W establishes some ground rules, influential voices like Sey and Laurie will continue to berate the league for not taking a stance while firmly standing against trans eligibility.
