LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan are seen as three of the greatest players in NBA history, making GOAT debates involving the trio a constant topic of discussion.
Each NBA icon has a passionate fan base with its own arguments, but former No. 1 pick Kwame Brown made his stance clear on James’ standing in the debate.

James continues to make his mark on the NBA, while Jordan defined the league throughout the 1990s and Bryant dominated during the 2000s. The trio built legendary careers, leading their teams to multiple championships. James has four NBA titles, Bryant captured five, and Jordan finished with six.
Jordan also leads the group in MVP awards with five, ahead of James’ four and Bryant’s lone MVP. All three became perennial NBA All-Stars and proudly represented the United States at the Summer Olympics.
While there remains a heated debate about the GOAT among these three accomplished players, Brown isn’t entertaining it.
Having shared the locker room with Jordan (Washington Wizards) and Bryant during his Lakers days, Brown urged to stop calling James the GOAT, with no “disrespect” to the new Philadelphia 76ers star, and there is a big reason why.
“If I were to say LeBron the GOAT and MJ ain’t [expletive] based on all the stories y’all said that MJ slapped me in the back of the head and treated me like [expletive] and all this and all that,” Brown said.

“I should be the first person saying MJ is not the GOAT. The way I think MJ would have jumped off a bridge if he had lost 11 games to somebody. Kobe would have beaten up his teammates if he’d have lost three games, five games to somebody.”
“Like it’s just a different animal. It’s a different level. I would be wrong. I would be a flat-out liar to be around and share the locker room with those two men, and then to see LeBron and say that he’s that. He’s not that. I don’t care about the accolades. He is not on the same level as Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. End of discussion.”
James’ case hinges on sustained elite excellence over two decades, as he keeps redefining career longevity and production. Even at 41, he averaged 20.9 points last season. He led three different franchises to NBA Championships, while another can be added if he wins one in Philly with Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid.
However, Jordan and Bryant’s former teammate remains a critic of James for another major reason.
After James joined the 76ers, Brown said during a livestream that the team could turn into a “circus” because of the media attention surrounding the four-time champion and claimed the veteran’s arrival might negatively affect the development of VJ Edgecombe.
