Draymond Green has opened up about his decision to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors without a no-trade clause in the contract.
Players on a one-year contract typically have an implied no-trade clause because they can veto any deal; however, the Warriors asked Green to waive his, and he agreed in exchange for a 15% trade kicker in his deal. Now, he’s opening up about that decision and why he didn’t push for a no-trade clause.

After initially opting out to allow the Warriors to pursue LeBron James, Green put pen to paper on a one-year, $27.7 million contract to stay in Golden State.
That deal features a 15% bonus in the event of a trade since Green waived his implied no-trade clause. Green opened up about giving up the veto power on “The Draymond Green Show” on Tuesday.

“It was reported that I did not receive the no-trade clause, no I didn’t. I think it was something that we could have fought over, but it wasn’t worth fighting over. I think if the Warriors want to trade me at some point of the season, they want to trade me. I’ve never been a guy who wants to stay somewhere where I’m not wanted,” Green said.
Green reiterated that it did not make sense for him to argue with the Warriors over such a minor deal point.
“Obviously, there was hope that we would land a guy with the mid-level slot. That didn’t happen, so I opted back in a sense to my deal. [There] was no other reason to not do that. So, shout out to the Dubs… To sit and fight over a no-trade clause, I don’t think it was worth it. It was pointless. So that wasn’t a thing,” he added.
Now 36 years old, Green has been a vital part of the Warriors roster since he was drafted into the NBA in 2012. He has won four NBA championships and earned four All-Star selections in Golden State, establishing himself as one of the top defenders in the modern era of basketball.
After the Warriors missed the NBA playoffs last season, Green, Stephen Curry, and Co. are determined to bounce back this year. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game last season.
