Despite free agency being well underway, LeBron James remains the biggest name without a team. After leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, the 41-year-old has yet to announce where he plans to play next season. James has remained tight-lipped about his future, adding to the frustration of some fans.
One theory from an NBA insider may have gotten to the bottom of why James hasn’t announced his decision yet, and the reason may not sit well with many.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor, sources believe James is “slow-playing his decision” on his next team to “see if any of his suitors can swing a deal for Kyrie Irving or Anthony Davis.”
As O’Connor points out, the problem is that the aforementioned pair don’t appear to be available via trade. If the report is true, James essentially playing general manager in what could be the final season of his illustrious career is unlikely to go over well with much of the NBA community, as the X reactions below suggest.

In a similar vein, another observer has clearly grown weary of the James saga, replying to O’Connor’s tweet, “I can’t wait until this guy retires.”

James apparently playing pseudo-GM was not lost on one NBA supporter who posted, “LeBron is trying to force teams to conform to his style like usual.”
Meanwhile, Mavs Film Room proposed an alternative solution, urging James to consider signing in Dallas.
“You can just join the team with Kyrie Irving, with the added bonus of Cooper Flagg,” the account suggested.

Mavericks podcast host Kevin Gray Jr. agreed, adding, “LeBron James should just sign in Dallas if he wants to play with Kyrie Irving.”

However, another user was fully on board with the Cavaliers swapping James Harden for Irving to facilitate James’ homecoming, writing, “Kyrie for Harden. Let’s do this.”
James has been heavily linked to the Warriors, Miami Heat and a return to Cleveland.
Reportedly, the Wizards have rebuffed all trade calls for Davis, having just acquired him at this year’s trade deadline.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old Irving missed all of last season with the Mavericks due to a ruptured ACL, but there is a belief they want to pair him with Flagg next season. As such, it may be difficult for James to pull off his wish if O’Connor’s report is accurate.
