‘I’d Give Him Tips’ – Anthony Edwards Recalls Sending Karl-Anthony Towns ‘Cheat Codes’ to Beat Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs

Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards reveals he sent tips to Karl-Anthony Towns to help the Knicks beat the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, both No. 1 overall picks of the Minnesota Timberwolves, grew close friends over their four seasons playing together. They even reached the Western Conference Finals.

Yet, once Minnesota broke up the wolf pack in 2024, Towns and Edwards didn’t grow apart. They remained friends. Both teams reached the Conference Finals in 2025, but neither was successful in advancing further. Surely, coming so close to the Finals only fueled their competitive fire.

Edwards Gave Towns Pointers During NBA Finals

So, once Towns’ New York Knicks managed to actually reach the NBA Finals, Edwards, who had faced New York’s opponent in the Western Conference Semifinals, was ready to help in any way he could.

Edwards may no longer have had the opportunity to become a champion after being eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs in six games, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t still invested in the rest of the season. Once it became clear that his old pal would be facing off against Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs, he was ready to pitch in.

Speaking in New York at the Fanatics Fest, Edwards revealed he was essentially giving Towns the answer to the test against Wemby.

“I was turned up,” Edwards said. “It may have been like three in the morning when [Towns] FaceTimed me after the game. But yeah, I was talking to him before every game, because we play San Antonio. So you know, just give him little tips and stuff on which players like to go which way and stuff about Wemby. So yeah, I gave him a little cheat code, and he passed the test, so shoutout KAT.”

Edwards didn’t get to play in the games, but he’s still taking some credit for helping Towns and the Knicks get theirs. Though, like he said, credit to KAT for actually taking his feedback in stride, even though he was the one who had gotten further than his former teammate did.

Who knows, maybe there’s a future where Towns can pay it back. Perhaps, after acquiring LaMelo Ball, the new-look Timberwolves can get farther than ever before, and Towns can be the one giving Edwards insight on beating his upcoming opponent.

With the friendly relationship these two have, Towns likely wouldn’t hesitate to help him any way he could, too. But first things first: the Timberwolves would have to reach the NBA Finals, and that’s something they’ve never been able to do as a franchise.
