Even before the offseason fully got underway, the list of teams trying to bring in LeBron James on the roster was growing by the second. Then, when he officially announced his decision to move on from the Los Angeles Lakers, a lot of those pipe dreams became potential realities.
The San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks were linked to James earlier. Additionally, potential reunions with the Miami Heat or the Cleveland Cavaliers also seemed to be on the cards, alongside new stops with the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Philadelphia 76ers.
However, there is one team that the rumors keep circling back to.
LeBron James Could Still Choose Perfect Basketball
Early in the summer, the Golden State Warriors seemed to be building a legitimate god squad. With plans to trade Jimmy Butler in exchange for Anthony Davis, they also wanted to add James into the mix.
That could give them a lineup featuring Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, James, and Davis. However, no movement in that direction has yet come to pass.
Moreover, it seems increasingly likely that Davis is standing pat with the Washington Wizards, at least for the time being. As a result, the Warriors looked like they were slinking into the background of the sweepstakes for the four-time MVP.
Instead, as the Timberwolves and the 76ers made a spirited push, with the Heat or Cavaliers reunion looming, the chances of Golden State being his final stop were withering away.
However, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report isn’t ready to write them off yet.
“I do think the Warriors are still as involved as any team. I want to say that too. As much as the reunion with Cleveland and Miami would be storybook. This new All-Star team, traveling team USA kind of circus, high entertainment value thing that would exist in Golden State, I think, is something that is still very much on the table.”

Even though he admitted to the up-and-down nature of the Warriors rumors, “There’s been a kind of roller coaster experience on the Golden State piece of all this, where the Warriors seemed to be the frontrunner at one point in time, and then it seemed like the Warriors were very much not the frontrunner.”
Ultimately, as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in nearly a decade, James has all the power and can unilaterally decide where his legendary career might end.
The Warriors, given his friendship with Green and admiration for Curry, might be just as lucrative as any other destination. But it depends on what James decides is the perfect final act for his career.
