‘It Would Be the Fit’ — Timberwolves HC Chris Finch Sends Recruiting Pitch to LeBron James Amid Free Agency

Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch went on live TV and made a free agency pitch to LeBron James. What did he say?

Of all the teams still alive in the LeBron James free-agent sweepstakes, the Minnesota Timberwolves may have been one of the unlikeliest destinations when the summer began.

However, they may very well provide the best overall basketball fit for the Hall of Famer who’s clearly seeking an opportunity to win his fifth NBA championship. Several analysts have chimed in, some declaring Minnesota the perfect destination for the four-time MVP.

We already know the Timberwolves have privately made their pitch to James. What would head coach Chris Finch’s selling points be? Now we have an answer.

Timberwolves Coach Makes Pitch to LeBron James on TV

With the Timberwolves’ Summer League team in action in Las Vegas, coach Finch took some time out of his day to sit down in a live stream. Finch addressed a wide range of topics, including the one Timberwolves fans have been craving.

When it came to what Finch would say to James to recruit him to Minnesota, the Timberwolves coach kept things simple.

“It would be the fit, for sure,” Finch said. “We have a hole (at PF) that he would easily fit into. The players alongside him have done a lot of winning, are guys that could use his leadership as well. His knowledge, his insight, his championship expertise. I think it would be a fun group to play with. I know he’s looking for happiness right now. I think the happiness quotient in Minnesota is extremely high.”

Even though the president of basketball operations, Tim Connelly, traded Naz Reid (one of Edwards’ closest basketball friends), the happiness quotient in Minnesota does appear to be high. Winning tends to do that, and after reaching the Western Conference Finals twice in the past three years, the Timberwolves have gotten awfully close to their goals.

There are plenty of connections that could lure James to the Twin Cities. Interestingly enough, James had already been coached by Finch before when the Timberwolves’ leader was named head coach of the 2024 All-Star Game.

Edwards and James have already won a Gold medal together at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

James might be the missing piece to the puzzle for the Timberwolves, too. He wouldn’t be asked to be the top scorer, distributor, or defender in the paint or on the perimeter. The 41-year-old could simply focus on being the best basketball player he can be, while imparting his 23 seasons of wisdom on a squad that’s already accomplished a lot without him.

Plus, as one of the 10 remaining NBA franchises that have never won a Finals trophy, his final act could be one that would memorialize him forever in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Talk about a legacy? It doesn’t get much better than that.
