BREAKING: Spurs Fire Announcer Jacob Tobey After Girlfriend Exposed Alleged Affair With a Player’s Sister

The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly fired their play-by-play announcer after reports of his affair with a player's sister emerged on social media.

A month after losing to the New York Knicks in five games in the NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs are making headlines for very different reasons.

The franchise has parted ways with play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey after reports emerged of him having an affair with the sister of a Spurs player.

Tobey, who has been with the Spurs since 2024 and previously called games for Fox Sports and the NBA G League, has reportedly been removed from his post after news of the alleged affair surfaced earlier this week.

The allegation came from his own Instagram account in the middle of the night earlier this week, where a story post with the following caption appeared. “This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. @lorenkwatrs So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :).”

The post was followed by another story post that appeared to show Tobey and Waters at a Photo Booth with the caption, “Me and the new girl LorenkWaters :).”

The photos quickly went viral on social media, with fans speculating whether they came from Tobey or whether his account had been hacked by his partner. The story posts were quickly deleted.

However, Front Office Sports reported on Thursday that the Spurs have decided to part ways with the announcer following the controversy.

Waters is the sister of Lindy Waters III, who joined the Spurs roster ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 6-foot-5 guard, who has also played for the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder, made 40 regular-season appearances off the bench for the Spurs and also featured in 9 playoff games as the franchise made the NBA Finals.

An announcement on the replacement for Tobey will likely be made in the coming weeks and months, though the Spurs’ play-by-play announcer job is likely to be coveted, given the team’s top roster.

It also remains to be seen where games featuring Victor Wembanyama and Co. will be broadcast next season, with the reigning Western Conference champions looking for a new in-market home following the shutdown of the FanDuel Sports Network.
