The Memphis Grizzlies finished 25-57 last season, finishing 13th in the Western Conference. Changes, then, were the need of the hour.
It started with trading former All-NBA guard Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers. In return, veterans Jerami Grant and Kris Murray headed to Memphis.
With head coach Tuomas Iisalo looking to alter Memphis’ style of play, the franchise has now made an offer to a restricted free agent, looking to price the power forward away from the Golden State Warriors.

Morant, due to his issues, did not seem likely to stay for the life of his contract. Furthermore, a heated spat with Iisalo seemed to accelerate the timeline of his exit.
Now, Memphis is trying to turn the page and shake things up, as ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news of the Grizzlies’ offer for Quinten Post.

“Restricted free agent Quinten Post is signing a three-year, $30 million contract offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, sources tell ESPN. The Golden State Warriors have until 11:59 pm ET on Tuesday to match,” Charania reported.
Post, a seven-foot power forward, could be a versatile piece off the bench for the Grizzlies. The 26-year-old Mississippi State/Boston College product has made 36.4% of his three-point attempts during his career.
Post would probably come off the bench as a three-point shooter who could also play in the post and use his frame against much smaller forwards. He’s not really a shot blocker, despite his height. Instead, he looks to force opponents to shoot over his frame rather than having to reject shots outright.
At the same time, a seven-footer that can shoot from the outside with ease off the bench would help any team. Although Zach Edey is the solidified starter, quality minutes from Post could help Memphis during long stretches.
Memphis drafted Duke forward Cameron Boozer to play the four. Combined with Edey, it appears Memphis is looking to pound the ball into the post and pass it out to the guards to make open shots. With the arrival of Boozer, he becomes the franchise player. Edey’s size and Boozer’s scoring ability could give the Grizzlies two building blocks.
The Warriors could match the deal. However, with rumors of a chase for LeBron James, their attention may not be on Post. Matching the $10 million a year offer would also severely restrict Golden State’s ability to round out the roster, which means Post is likely to end up with Memphis when all is said and done.
