LeBron James’ free agency continues to dominate the NBA, but one analyst believes the list of true championship destinations is much shorter than many expect.
Rather than the focusing on familiar contenders like the Golden State Warriors or Miami Heat, NBA analyst Sam Quinn believes only two teams are legitimate title fits for the 41-year-old superstar.
Quinn Believes Only Two Teams Make Real Sense
With James reportedly prioritizing winning over money, his next decision could reshape the championship race. That possibility has made every contender evaluate whether adding the league’s all-time leading scorer is worth the gamble, even as he enters his 24th NBA season.
Quinn argued that the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves are the only destinations where James immediately raises a team into serious championship contention.
“The only two LeBron teams I view as genuine championship threats are Denver and Minnesota,” Quinn said. “He is the most additive for Minnesota considering the gaping hole at power forward. He fits best with Denver, because dear god, the collective genius of LeBron and Jokic…”

Quinn later ranked Minnesota as his preferred landing spot, citing the Timberwolves’ roster and potential outcome.
“This is my personal preference list for LeBron’s final team,” Quinn said. “Minnesota. Real contender. Perfectly fills their biggest hole… Getting Ant over the top. Being a part of LaMelo’s journey from carnival point guard to serious player.”
He placed Denver second, saying, “This is the basketball nerd answer. Anyone who watched LeBron with Marc Gasol in 2021 or has heard of him talk about Rajon Rondo knows why. When LeBron connects with another basketball genius, magic happens. Jokic is the best possible version of that. They would be basketball soulmates.”
Timberwolves Have A Real Shot For LeBron James
Minnesota is becoming more confident about its chances of landing James. According to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, the Timberwolves have stepped up talks with his representatives.
The Timberwolves are offering more than just a chance to compete for another NBA title. Since the franchise has never won a championship, James could make history by leading Minnesota to its first NBA championship and adding another outstanding achievement to his resume.
James’ agent, Rich Paul, also gave Minnesota a boost by naming Timberwolves in the Game Over podcast. He praised the team’s front office, coaching staff and talented young roster, which includes Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert. Paul believes James’ experience could help the team in every aspect.
Minnesota can currently offer James only a veteran minimum contract, but the team believes its strong roster would let him focus on winning instead of carrying the entire team. The Timberwolves also have an opening at power forward, making him a good fit.
