NBA Rumors: Insider Reveals Cavaliers Could Trade for $285,393,640 Superstar to ‘Get LeBron James’ Attention’

The bid to entice LeBron James back to the Cleveland Cavaliers could force the team to make a separate blockbuster trade.

NBA free agency is always one of the most anticipated moments of the entire basketball calendar. For the first time in nearly a decade, the sweepstakes will also involve LeBron James.

After spending eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, his longest continuous stint with a single franchise, the four-time NBA champion is officially looking for a new landing spot. A reunion with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers could be on the cards, but the team might have to do more to entice him.

LeBron James Finds Another Running Mate With the Cavaliers

On paper, the fit with the Cavaliers makes perfect sense. Teeming with superstar talent at every position, the one area where they’re lacking is the small forward spot. Adding James could resolve many roster issues.

But after an inconsistent run during the playoffs, which ended with a sweep at the hands of the New York Knicks, the four-time MVP would ideally prefer an upgraded roster. The last time James came back to Cleveland, he brought reinforcements in the form of Kevin Love.

Veteran analyst and insider Brian Windhorst believes a similar situation could play out this time around as well.

Breaking down the gravity of James becoming the number one free agent at 41, he believed it would be the centerpiece of the entire offseason.

“The league changed this afternoon with LeBron coming on the market. Not only that, but announcing that he’s available to just about everybody. Start your engines because that is a curveball that affects the whole market,” Windhorst said.

In particular, he revealed a master plan the Cavaliers could undertake that would involve Jaylen Brown.

Signed to a five-year, $285,393,640 contract, the perennial All-NBA candidate has grown disenfranchised with the Boston Celtics.

After being a constant part of the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors, it seems inevitable that the Celtics will move on from him, despite not landing the Greek Freak. That is where Windy believes Cleveland could strike.

“Jaylen Brown has not found a home. The Celtics have not found a home. After they tried to send him to Milwaukee for Giannis Antetokounmpo, over the last week, they’ve talked to a number of other teams, but they’ve failed to get traction on a deal. The Cleveland Cavaliers learned today that LeBron James will be willing to play for less than his market salary. That changed everything.”

Last season, Brown averaged a career-high 28.7 points per game, while also adding 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists as the lone superstar on a second-seeded Boston squad. As a result, he earned legitimate MVP buzz and could be the needle mover for James.

“How does Cleveland get LeBron James’ attention? Do they show him their beautiful, brand-new practice facility that they’re building? It is awesome, I saw it this weekend in Cleveland. But that is not going to impress him. What’s gonna impress him is when they do something with their roster.”

That roster change, as he explained, was trading for Brown.

“Jaylen Brown is out there. Can the Cavs make a move for Jaylen Brown, then come to LeBron and say, ‘How do you feel about us now?’ That’s the type of move you’re going to do to get LeBron James’ attention.”

The likelihood of such a blockbuster move is low.

But over the past year, they’ve gone all-in on their current core with a flurry of activity and are trying to take over the Eastern Conference once again.

The one missing piece is James, but adding him alongside Brown could be the kind of seismic change that flips the script for the conference as a whole moving forward.
