‘So Corny,’ ‘Should Get 10 Years in Prison’ — NBA World Reacts As Fan Storms Court To Take Selfie With Victor Wembanyama

A fan's court-storming stunt during Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs draws a flood of criticism.

While the New York Knicks were on their way to a Game 1 NBA Finals victory over the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center, one fan sought to steal the spotlight.

In the fourth quarter, a spectator rushed onto the court and held up his cellphone, seemingly attempting to snap a selfie with Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, garnering widespread condemnation.

NBA World Slams Fan for Interrupting Finals For Victor Wembanyama Selfie

Though security quickly reached the disruptive fan and ushered him away, ABC opted to show a replay of him smiling while struggling to capture his brief on-court glory.

Hoop Central’s X account not only shared a clip of the fan’s interference but also highlighted Wembanyama’s apparent entertainment.

“Victor Wembanyama’s reaction to this fan is amazing,” Hoop Central captioned the video.

ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel indicated that someone may have profited from the incident by placing a prop bet on a fan reaching the court.

“Someone probably just won stupid money off a fan running onto the court. Weird world we live in,” Siegel wrote.

Sam Federman, a writer for Mid-Major Madness, similarly suggested, “There’s like a 70% chance that a gambling company sponsored that fan running onto the floor.”

An influencer pointed fingers at prediction market sites Kalshi and Polymarket as potential partners in the madness, claiming, “$1000 that fan that ran on the court is tied to some stupid Kalshi or Polymarket bet.”

Social media personality and Mile High Sports author Swipa Cam blasted the fan, writing, “That’s so corny. This dude got gifted some tickets and then did that nonsense. One day a player finna Ron Artest a fan running on the floor, and they will blame the player.”

Content creator Ahmed/The Ears questioned, “How did that fan run on the court so easily?”

Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy chimed in by seemingly joking, “That kid who ran onto the court should get 10 years in prison.”

The Athletic’s Jared Weiss didn’t hold back his disdain for the fans’ stunt, writing, “A fan just ran on the floor during play to take a selfie with Wemby and started celebrating when he got the shot as security carried him off. Nobody is a bigger loser than a clout chaser.”

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Madelyn Burke expressed confusion over the fan’s intent.

“I don’t get the value of the moment for a fan to run onto the court only to be banned from NBA arenas for life. I’m sure the selfie was strong, though,” Burke quipped.

The Athletic’s Chris Vannini also wondered why the broadcast even “showed a replay of the fan who ran on the court?”

The focus now shifts to identifying the man who rushed onto the floor. It is also unclear whether he may have profited from the incident or if he is a content creator. More details are expected to emerge between Games 1 and 2.
