‘Biggest Fraud,’ ‘Predictable’ — NBA World Blasts James Harden After Cavaliers Star’s ‘Pathetic’ Elimination Game vs. Knicks

James Harden draws heavy backlash after fizzling out in the Cavaliers' season-ending Game 4 blowout loss to the Knicks.

James Harden delivered another underwhelming playoff performance as the Cleveland Cavaliers were run out of their own building in Monday’s season-ending 130-93 Game 4 Eastern Conference finals loss to the New York Knicks.

After continuing his trend of fizzling out in high-stakes moments, Harden was mercilessly ripped by the NBA world, with some questioning the 36-year-old’s future amid his waning production.

James Harden’s Game 4 No-Show vs. Knicks Sparks Backlash

Acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Darius Garland and a second-round pick at this year’s trade deadline, Harden was brought in to help take Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell-led core to the next level.

While the Cavaliers made their first conference finals appearance since 2018, they ultimately didn’t appear much closer to their goal. They finished with a lackluster 8-10 postseason record, escaping two seven-game series against the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons before getting swept in demoralizing fashion by New York.

Despite leading by 22 points in the fourth quarter of Game 1, Cleveland lost all four contests by double-digits, failing to rebound from its series-opening collapse. Meanwhile, Harden had a forgettable series, averaging 16.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 4.3 turnovers per game, while shooting just 38.9% from the field and 17.9% from 3-point range.

The 11-time All-Star reached a new low in Game 4, finishing with only 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Harden shot an abysmal 2-for-8 overall (25%), missing all 6 of his 3-point looks, and committed 5 turnovers en route to logging a minus-19 plus-minus.

The Cavaliers showed no signs of life, falling behind by as many as 45 points in front of their home fans as six Knicks players scored 11-plus points, prompting outcry on X, with the bulk of the criticism aimed at Harden.

“James Harden 1 of the biggest frauds in NBA history,” one user declared.

“James Harden should just be on a losing team moving forward so he can keep accumulating stats like [Russell] Westbrook. The days of trying to win with Harden as a key starter are over with. Cavs were foolish to trade for him, they’d be wise to move him in the offseason,” NBA YouTuber Jim Park slammed Harden.

“What’s next for Harden? What contending team even wants a player like that at this point in his career?” another user questioned.

“At this point, being a Harden apologist is not a choice, it’s a condition,” NBA personality Rob Perez quipped.

“James Harden in tonight’s home closeout game: 0-6 from 3 with 5 turnovers. Predictable,” veteran NBA analyst Skip Bayless weighed in.

“You’ve been a great regular-season player, but far too many times in the postseason, we’ve seen pathetic performances like this,” NFL legend Shannon Sharpe sounded off.

As for Harden’s point of view, the 2018 MVP turned heads postgame by claiming that despite getting “dominated” by the Knicks, he “genuinely” feels like the Cavaliers are the “better team.”

Even so, Cleveland enters the offseason facing numerous questions, including whether to move on from Harden as it seeks to retool and contend for the 2027 East title.
