‘What a Waste,’ ‘Absolutely Shameless’ – NBA World Rages Against Shams Charania For ‘Leaking’ Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP Win

The NBA World is not at all happy after Shams Charania reportedly spoiled a major MVP moment involving Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Remember when Adrian Wojnarowski used to shake the basketball world with those “Woj bombs”? NBA fans waited for them and timely refreshed their timelines for them.

Then came Shams Charania. After Wojnarowski stepped away from ESPN, he steadily built a good reputation. But on Sunday morning, Charania dropped a very different kind of bomb. And this one didn’t land with a bang. It blew up in his face.

Shams Charania’s Latest Revelation Bombed

On Sunday morning, Charania took to X and revealed that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would win the NBA MVP award for the 2025-26 season.

The problem, however, was not the winner itself. The issue was timing.

The league reportedly planned to officially reveal the MVP during Sunday’s Game 7 clash between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons on Amazon Prime Video at 7:30 p.m. ET. As expected, the NBA world did not take the news lightly.

How Did the NBA World React to the Revelation?

Over the last few months, the way Gilgeous-Alexander played made him the favorite option to win the award. He guided Oklahoma City to a league-best 64-18 record and also displayed great offensive skills. Fans were already prepared for the announcement.

However, even when the result feels predictable, supporters still enjoy the suspense of the official reveal. That emotional payoff was taken away when Charania revealed the news early, and the NBA world was clearly upset.

“League waited 5 weeks after the regular season just to have it leaked like this. What a waste,” wrote ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Tomer Azarly.

Whereas sports analyst Tyler Glasscock wrote, “Shams is absolutely shameless. Not even supposed to announce the MVP until the Game 7 pregame show, and he goes and ruins it like eight hours beforehand.”

Perhaps the most interesting fact of this entire incident is that it wasn’t even the first time. Charania did the same thing last year. That one could be written off as a mistake. But doing it two years in a row? The NBA world is genuinely baffled.

“2nd year in a row Shams leaks the MVP news… It was supposed to be announced on Amazon Prime tonight,” wrote the famous Lakers fanpage ‘LakeShowYo’s’ admin.

Meanwhile, sports writer Clemente Almanza did not hold back while reacting to the controversy.

“S**** spoiling MVP again is so lame. Doesn’t do it for any other award or accolade. Just a clout-hungry move to make. Everybody knew he was going to win it. Let SGA and Thunder fans have their moment in real time instead of creating this awkward 10-hour waiting period,” Almanza tweeted.

While most of the NBA world was busy criticizing Charania for leaking the MVP news early, sports influencer MrBuckBuck offered a possible explanation for what may have happened behind the scenes.

“One thing is for sure: Shams Charania spoiled the MVP announcement for Prime and the NBA, and I’m sure they aren’t happy about it,” he wrote.

Ironically, Gilgeous-Alexander’s historic season should have been the main story of the day. Instead, much of the conversation shifted toward frustration surrounding the leak itself.
