‘Speculation That Has Legs’ — NBA World Reacts As Jaylen Brown’s Rumored ‘Frustration’ With Celtics Ignites Trade Buzz

NBA analysts react to Jaylen Brown's rumored frustration with the Boston Celtics as trade rumors swirl around the star's future.

The Boston Celtics blew a 3-1 series lead to the Philadelphia 76ers and got knocked out in the first round for the second straight year, finishing off one of the more confusing seasons in recent franchise history.

That alone would have been enough to kick off a busy offseason in Boston. But it has been quite messy in the last few hours since a recent report on Jaylen Brown went viral.

Jaylen Brown’s Current Situation Fuels Trade Rumors

NBA veteran Tracy McGrady recently claimed that Brown was frustrated with the Boston front office. But general manager Brad Stevens cleared the air recently and mentioned that Brown has not communicated his distaste with the Celtics organization so far.

NBA insider Chris Haynes also weighed in on the situation during a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio. He said, “But it’s still not coming from Jaylen Brown, but we all know. What was being said? When Jayson Tatum was coming back, we all know. The dynamic that was at play or at stake.”

“Jaylen Brown, you could make the case at certain points of the season was a top-five MVP candidate when the Boston Celtics were making their push and got up to the number two seed. And it’s just not a good look right now. It’s not good timing right on all fronts. So that leads to speculation, and for me in this case, I think it’s speculation that has legs,” he said.

CBS Sports analyst Ashley Nicole Moss also spoke about Brown’s current state. She said, “What T-Mac is alluding to is that the return of Jayson Tatum and him (Brown) no longer being ‘the guy’ upset Brown, and that’s an issue with the foundation of what makes this team successful.”

Jay Williams also took to X to claim that the Celtics should pull off a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, letting Brown go. He said, “Giannis for Jaylen Brown straight up. Why not.”

That’s not all, Nick Wright also speculated that Brown may not be with the Celtics next season, and even floated a possible Antetokounmpo move to Boston. He said on FTF on FS1, “It is more likely than not that Jaylen Brown is not on the Boston Celtics next year.”

As of now, Brown hasn’t commented on the uncertainty surrounding his future. In July, he will have the option to sign a new deal with Boston, signaling that whatever tension exists has been resolved.

If he does not, the Celtics will have to decide whether to let him play out his contract, which heads toward unrestricted free agency in 2029, or move him now while his value is at an all-time high.
