When Bronny James was drafted 55th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft, it made history. For the first time, a father and son were active players on the same NBA roster. That moment opened the door to many father-son stories, and Bronny has been slowly sharing some of them. The latest one he shared is probably the funniest yet.
Bronny James’ Latest Revelation Regarding His Father
After the Lakers beat the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, Bronny was interviewing in the locker room when he brought up a story about his dad.
According to him, there was a time when he was playing with LeBron James and things got a little too competitive, and the King ended up breaking the backboard.
“The last time I played [LeBron James] 1-on-1. I don’t know if this story came out, but he broke a backboard at our house in Miami,” Bronny said during the interview.
The reason behind it made the story even more interesting. As Bronny was telling it, Lakers guard Austin Reaves, who was nearby, jumped in and asked if James broke the backboard because he lost to Bronny. Bronny simply smiled and nodded. The moment got laughs around the room and showed just how competitive LBJ can be.
“Yeah! You can say that. Don’t leave that out!” Reaves added.
This revelation came on a night when the father-son duo also made history on the court. During the game, they recorded the first father-son assist in NBA history.
It happened with 7:52 left in the second quarter. Bronny was running the offense when James came over and set a screen. Then he received the ball near the top of the key. A double team came his way. James, at that moment, spotted Bronny standing open behind the arc. He swung the ball out to him. Bronny gave a little pump fake to settle himself, and then he rose and knocked down the three.
“Definitely a cool moment for us and most importantly our family,” James said after the game.
On the night, James finished with 14 points for the Lakers. Bronny scored only three points in just four minutes. As for the game itself, the Lakers were in control pretty much from the start.
They went into the second quarter leading by five. By halftime, that gap had grown to eight points. In the third quarter, they put up 25 points, and in the fourth quarter, they had the biggest lead of the night, which was 17 points. The Nets were not able to handle that pressure and lost the game (116-99).
The Lakers will now turn their attention to their next game, which is against the Washington Wizards on March 30.
