NBA World Reacts to Donovan Mitchell’s Crossover on Noah Penda

During the third quarter, rookie forward Noah Penda was tasked with guarding Mitchell. The Cavaliers star noticed the defender pressing too close and responded with a sharp step-back move that sent Penda to the floor.

Mitchell then calmly buried the three-pointer, drawing a loud reaction from the crowd — including cheers from the home fans despite the play going against their own team.

The highlight quickly spread across social media, creating significant buzz in the NBA world.

“Donovan Mitchell absolutely dropped Noah Penda on a crossover, and NAILED the three pointer,” SM Highlights pointed out.

“DONOVAN MITCHELL DROPPED HIM — OH MY GOODNESS. 🔥🔥🔥,” Hoop Central added in pure disbelief.

“DONOVAN MITCHELL, STEP BACK. MY GOODNESS. FILTHY,” LegionHoops quipped.

“OH NO YOU DIDN’T SPIDA!!!,” posted ‘Oh No He Didn’t,’ a popular X handle covering everything about NBA.

“Magic fans cheering while their own player getting cooked 😭 L franchise,” Ken Love Hoops joked, highlighting the support from the home crowd.

“Poor Noah Penda,” Real Cavs Fans added.

“You know it’s an insane crossover when the home crowd erupts after its own guy gets crossed over,” Fred Katz of the Athletic wrote, summing up the sentiments perfectly.

While Mitchell’s highlight was one of the biggest moments of the night, the Magic ultimately had the last laugh. They were powered by strong scoring performances from Paolo Banchero, who finished with 25 points, and Desmond Bane, who led all scorers with 35 points.

Mitchell still put together a solid performance for Cleveland, finishing with 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists while shooting 37.5% from the field and 30.8% from three-point range.

The Cavaliers star is currently enjoying a career-best season, averaging 28.3 points per game on 48.0% shooting during the 2025–26 campaign. His strong play helped Cleveland post a 10–1 record in February and earned him his third career Player of the Month award.

With the win, the Magic extended their winning streak to five games, while the Cavs dropped to 2–2 in their last four contests.
