Dwyane Wade made headlines earlier this month with some pointed comments about the state of Miami’s basketball scene. They were the kind of remarks that tend to linger in a locker room. On Tuesday night at the Kaseya Center, Bam Adebayo gave the most emphatic response imaginable. First, with one of the greatest individual performances in NBA history. And then, for good measure, he had a few words too.

Bam Adebayo Responds Directly to Dwyane Wade After Historic 83-Point Night
Dwyane Wade’s comments came in a March 2026 episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq, where the Heat legend did not hold back. “The city needs to be woken up. It’s not alive no more. When we was here, it was buzzing in these streets,” Wade said.
“I thought I was about to stay here but I’m leaving because ain’t no energy here. This city needs that person who can bring that energy. When Shaq came, the culture here shifted. When LeBron and them came, I felt the buzz.”
Adebayo heard every word and had a sharp response ready after dropping 83 points on the Washington Wizards. “Talking about ain’t no buzz, and he wanted to be out. He 45, take your a** to the house,” Adebayo said with a grin to the media post the game. “I don’t know if he’s trying to rile us up. But all that said, I feel like it’s a lot of buzz tonight.”
There was certainly buzz at the Kaseya Center on Tuesday. Adebayo torched the Wizards for 83 points, the second-highest single-game total in NBA history.
Miami cruised smoothly to a 150-129 victory. He finished 20-of-43 from the field, hit seven three-pointers, and an extraordinary 36-of-43 from the free throw line, adding 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in 42 minutes.
The performance surpassed Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point game from 2006, leaving only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game ahead of it in the history books.

A Historic Night Witnessed by Those Who Matter Most
The moment carried extra weight, given who was in the building to witness it. Adebayo’s mother, Marilyn Blount, watched from the stands alongside his girlfriend, WNBA star A’ja Wilson. And after the final buzzer, mother and son shared a long embrace on the court.
It was a deeply personal moment rooted in a long journey. The two once lived together in a single-wide trailer, and in 2020, Adebayo bought his mother a house on her birthday. Tuesday night felt like another chapter in that same story.
“Man, I wish I could relive it twice,” Adebayo said afterward. “Somebody had to pass me the ball. I appreciate coach for drawing up plays for me and I got it going tonight.”
As for Wade’s comments, Adebayo acknowledged there might have been some motivation behind them. But on a night like Tuesday, the buzz was undeniable. The Kaseya Center crowd gave him a standing ovation as he left the floor, and the Heat improved to 37-29 in the Eastern Conference.
