The Atlanta Hawks are on a surge, and much of their recent success has been due to Jonathan Kuminga’s addition to the side. Since his trade to the Hawks, the former Golden State Warriors forward has improved, and the Hawks have won five games in a row.
Kendrick Perkins Roasts the Warriors Amid Jonathan Kuminga and Hawks’ Surge
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), NBA champion and analyst Kendrick Perkins roasted the Warriors when responding to a post on the possibility of Stephen Curry and Co. missing the playoffs for the fourth time in seven seasons.
“I bet Kuminga and the Hawks won’t miss the playoffs!!! Just saying…” Perkins wrote, in reply to a Dunk Central tweet that gave the Warriors a 50% chance of making the playoffs. The same post saw the Hawks have a 37% chance, which looks even better if their current form is factored.

Kuminga has been a force for the Hawks on both ends of the floor. He averages 21.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in these three games so far. His explosive athleticism bodes well for the young Hawks unit as they look to keep their momentum going.
On the season front, the banged-up Warriors have struggled with injuries to Curry, Jimmy Butler (out for the season), and their latest addition, Kristaps Porziņģis. At the time of writing, they are eighth in the West with a 31-30 record, with the LA Clippers closing in on them in ninth. The side has lost their last two games, and are 4-6 in their last 10.
As for the Hawks, their five-game win streak has them sitting in 10th in the East with a 32-31 record. They are in a position to make the postseason even if they have to take the play-in route. The Hawks missed the playoffs twice in the last two years, and their best run was the Conference Finals in 2021.

It has been a contrasting run for both the Warriors and the Hawks. The common factor has been Kuminga, who went from falling out of rotation under Steve Kerr to becoming a vital two-way cog under Quin Snyder.
Up next, the Hawks begin their five-game homestand, starting against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Warriors hit the road for a three-game trip, starting against the Houston Rockets. Only time will tell whether they can turn their campaign around with 21 games remaining in the season.
