Kevin Durant Discloses What Really Happened During Viral Altercation With Tyler Herro

Rockets star Kevin Durant downplayed his heated verbal exchange with Tyler Herro, stating it simply sparked needed energy.

The Houston Rockets are still in a strong position this season. They are currently sitting third in the Western Conference standings with a 37–22 record. However, their recent 115–105 loss to the Miami Heat on Saturday night was a tough one.

After the game, much of the attention shifted toward Kevin Durant, who addressed a heated moment involving Tyler Herro that quickly went viral over social media.

Kevin Durant’s Comment Regarding Saturday Night’s Altercation

The altercation took place early in the game, with 5:22 remaining in the first quarter. During a timeout, tensions rose as Durant and Herro got into a face-to-face verbal exchange.

Both players were visibly fired up. If we see they jawed at each other while teammates and officials stepped in to prevent things from escalating further. According to reports, from the moment Durant appeared to mock Herro about needing help on defense, implying that Miami had to rely on double teams to slow him down.

Herro didn’t back down, responding with words of his own as the two stars stood their ground. Eventually, referees issued double technical fouls, and the situation was brought under control.

After the loss, Durant was asked about the incident during his postgame interview. He downplayed the entire situation and made it clear there were no hard feelings.

“I think we both just needed a jolt of energy to start the game. You have seen it. We laughed and joked right after that. I have respect for Tyler; he has respect for me. Those words are just words,” Durant said during the interview.

Herro also shared a similar viewpoint after the game. He explained that the exchange wasn’t anything serious or out of control.

“It was nothing crazy. I know Kev a little bit, and we were just competing. I feel like, as a team, we didn’t have an edge to us against Milwaukee or Philly, so I was just trying to bring a little edge to us,” Herro said as per ClutchPoints’ Zachary Weinberger.

Looking at the game, the Rockets had a slow start. They were trailing by four points at the end of the first quarter. However, they responded well in the second quarter, scoring 24 points and taking a narrow one-point lead into halftime.

Unfortunately for the Rockets, the second half told a different story. The Heat regrouped and scored a combined 64 points in the final two quarters. Their offensive rhythm and defensive adjustments proved too much for Houston to handle, and they eventually lost.

Durant finished with 32 points and led the Rockets offensively. But his efforts were not enough to help the team win. Now they will shift their focus to their next matchup, against the Washington Wizards on March 2.
