Tyrese Haliburton won’t take the floor with the Indiana Pacers until this coming autumn. However, despite tearing his Achilles tendon, Haliburton has still been around the team during what’s been a pretty miserable season. Though he wants to be involved, Haliburton recently came down with something that will keep him away from the Pacers.
What is Tyrese Haliburton’s Latest Health Condition?
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed to reporters that Haliburton has been diagnosed with shingles, which will keep him away from team activities for a while.
“(Haliburton)’s come down with Shingles, which is a very painful thing,” Carlisle said. “He’ll likely be away from the team for two or three weeks as he recovers. He will make a full recovery, but this happened over the last few days. He was meeting us in DC and had some odd symptoms and ended up coming back here.”

For anyone unfamiliar, Shingles is a painful skin rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. It typically occurs on only one side of the body and takes two to four weeks to heal.
It typically doesn’t happen with people as young as Haliburton, but there have been exceptions. Luckily, it shouldn’t indicate anything else is going on.
This doesn’t really change much about the Pacers’ trajectory, regardless of whether he got Shingles or not. Between losing him to an Achilles tear and losing Myles Turner to the Milwaukee Bucks during the offseason, many anticipated a season from hell for the Pacers.
The upside is that Haliburton should be ready by the time next season rolls around. More than that, the Pacers already have their Turner replacement waiting in the wings with Ivica Zubac. The only conundrum is the Pacers trying to ensure the pick they would owe the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Zubac does not convey to them.
The question is whether Haliburton can be the same player he was before he suffered such a serious injury at the worst possible time. Achilles’ tears have more often than not been a career-altering setback, but they have been overcome in the past. Haliburton just guided the Pacers to their most successful playoff run in franchise history, so if he can get back to his previous self, this would just be the start for both him and them.
Obviously, getting Shingles rubs salt in the wound, but hopefully, this will all be taken care of, and everyone can move on. Still, what an awful turn of events for Haliburton and the Pacers.
