Miami Heat guard Norman Powell is going to be playing for Team World in the NBA All-Star Game round-robin tournament on Sunday at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. Powell lives in the United States and is averaging 23.0 points per game in the 2025-26 NBA regular season.
Now, because Powell lives in the United States, why is he on Team World?

Heat’s Norman Powell Find Place on Team World
Powell has Jamaican heritage in his family. He even played for Team Jamaica in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers during the summer of 2025. De’Aaron Fox of the San Antonio Spurs replaced Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo in the All-Star Game after Antetokounmpo was ruled out due to an injury.
Fox went to Team USA, which freed up Powell to join Team World.
Powell played three-plus seasons of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers, who play their home games at the Intuit Dome. For the 2025-26 NBA regular season, Powell is putting up some pretty good numbers.
Powell currently averages 23.0 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game, and 2.6 assists per game. Right now, Powell is shooting 47.4 percent from the floor, 39.6 percent from 3-point range, and 84.3 percent at the free-throw line.
Besides Powell, Team World is pretty loaded with some top-notch NBA stars. Among them are the Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, who is from France; Luka Dončić of the Los Angeles Lakers, who is from Slovenia; Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets, who is from Canada; and Murray’s teammate Nikola Jokić, who is from Serbia.
Other Team World players include Deni Avdija of the Portland Trail Blazers, who is from Israel, and Alperen Şengün of the Houston Rockets, who is from Turkey and is a replacement for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, who is out due to injury.
Also, Karl-Anthony Towns of the New York Knicks, who is from the United States but has Dominican Republic roots, and Pascal Siakam of the Indiana Pacers, who is from Cameroon, will also be on Team World.
After Team World, USA Stars, and USA Stripes face off in the round-robin tournament, the final two teams will play in the championship game. The four games within the tournament will be divided into 12-minute quarters. Who wins the championship game will be declared the winner of the 2026 NBA All-Star Game.
That will put a wrap on NBA All-Star Weekend, which included the 3-Point Contest, Shooting Stars, and Slam Dunk Contest on NBA All-Star Saturday, also held at the Intuit Dome.
